Ten stories from Eric Brown, of varying quality, set in various parts of the world or universe. There are recurring themes of Death (or perhaps mortality) and identity. There a couple of stories which are a little weak, although on the whole they are fascinating little gems, featuring well-rounded characters, and not all of them Anglo-American Anglo Saxon folk either, which makes a pleasant change. Fantastic Eric Brown in bite size chunks! There is a bit of everything in here with the usual great ideas we've come to expect. I'm not sure if I can pick a single favourite but if I were forced it might be Seleema and the Spheretrix for the fun, also it was interesting to read the short that was the precursor to Kethani.
These stories would be more at home in the Golden Age of science fiction, published in some pulp anthology like Amazing Stories. Characterization was typical of that era. I kept reading because I always keep reading, and also, space ships, aliens, you know. I can't not read.
