"Among the Enemy," written by Margaret Peterson Haddix is a book that has a lot of cliffhangers, suspense, it is constantly unraveling mysteries, and really draws you in, making you feel like your actually in the scene. I recommend this book to readers who love realistic fiction. In this book, you can really feel the characters emotion, like if he's sad, angry, confused, etc. It's just so detailed. I really like how the author makes each book about someone else, not about the same person in every [...]
Haddix switches protagonists once again, with this (the sixth book in the series) being told by Mathias, one of the characters introduced in Among the Impostors. In this portion of the tale, Mathias struggles with the fundamental question of trying to do what is right when "what is right" is not very clear at all. Throughout this series, Haddix poses extremely complex moral dilemmas for her readers through scenarios that they can understand. Her protagonists are flawed, and that makes them all t [...]
Among the Enemy by: Margaret Peterson HaddixThis book was amazing! This whole series was amazing! I read all 7 books in about 15 days. Wow, right? Well, that doesn't happen very often for me. This series I had read once before but I didn't really pay much attention before. This series is really good. It is full of suspense and is full of action. It also has some comedy and some romance throughout the series. These books are around 200 pages each so, they aren't very big. I was going to do my rev [...]
Now it Matthias's turn for his story. Always together with Percy and Alia, the trio were a family. Yet, when they were ripped from Niedler School by the Population Police, things go awry and eventually they three are separated. Alia is hurt in a vehicle accident and Percy is shot. Matthias is beside himself with worry, but finally makes the decision to leave them and go for help. Inadvertently, after finding Dr. Talbot and bringing her to the injured, he subsequently 'saves' a Population Police [...]
These take about two evenings to read, and get about a handful of eyerolls from me. Mostly because things "just happen" to fall into place: a door is open, no one is looking, a vent is somehow large enough for a tweenage boy to tunnel through [by the way, Mythbusters tried the whole climbing through a vent and it was VERY loud and not sturdy so I call BS], people trust the kids or are on their side Though the bit that bothers me the most is somehow all the kids in these books JUST HAPPEN to star [...]
These are getting better and better! As things get more intense they also get less realistic, but they are still good. I'll admit that after a few chapters I had to go back to the end and make sure certain key characters were still alive before I continued reading.
Personal Response: You have to read all of the books . It's easy to read. The story line is getting really good and a lot of action in the book. Plot: Matthias finds himself caught in the cross fire between the Population Police and the friendlys. And ends up saving the life of a Population Police officer. The officer takes Matthias to the top of Population Police headquarters to train him to become one of their best. There, among his feared enemies, Matthias encounters Nina, another illegal , w [...]
Matthias is a twelve year old boy who is a third child. The population police said that a family can only have two kids. Matthias and his friends were at school when the population police came in and put all of the kids in trailers because they are all third children and tied them up. Eventually Matthias breaks the ropes and he tries to get his friends out. The truck that was pulling the traller instantly hits a tree. It falls on the truck. Alia, one of Matthias friends, is knocked out. Percy, h [...]
I don't know how Haddix does it, but she twists so many individuals into so many different books while moving the story along. It's hard to see how much time has elapsed since the very first book, Among the Hidden, began. How pivotal each character is to the success of the plot. This book provides such a stunning glance at what takes place behind "enemy" lines, the population police headquarters. It brings up the ethics of each individual, regardless of which side you are on. The strength of one [...]
I absolutely loved it! off to read the last one of the series!!!
Well, i would give this four and a half stars but there wasn't an option for that but it is what it is.The book was written well, and had an amazing plot. The book was very good, suspensful, a mix of fear, agony, and hope, bravery, all was good except for one thing. The language. I'm sorry to say but to much old language got in the way of the suction i had in all of the other shadow children books.Don't get my review the wrong way though. My fave part was when Luke was asked to kill a women who [...]
The book might be a really suspenseful book that fights the for liberty and the only thing that's stopping them is evil. They've been suffering that there Commander is making treating them like dogs. He was thinking "I can't stop this evil". There might be someone or something that can have the power to defeat evil but evil grows inside of people. The book will take you in a action pack thrilling adventure that you will never forget. He's hopping that someone will take action and that boy will b [...]

Mathias finds a cottage and there he meets an actual population policeman who is getting shot by a man in a tree? so Mathias jumps in a car with him and saves his and the population policemans life! the population police take him in and makes him a member! how will he get back to his friends save identities all the food and himself. can he [...]
Among the Enemy was an astonishing book about a boy named Matthias losing his friends who have been with him for as long as he could remember. I liked the way the author used the point of view of someone from the 3rd book in the series now in the 6th. It was cool how I knew what Matthias was talking about when he had his flashbacks.
This was an amazingly deep story. The idea that just kids could be held accountable for the faults of a nation and killed simply for being alive is a hard topic. After all this time away from the series I found it difficult to picture myself reading this series at such a young age. The full review can be found at katetilton/the-shadow-chil
My book is "Among The Enemy" by Margaret Peterson Haddix this book takes place in a dystopian world where food is scarce and, because of that, the Population Police hunt down and kill third children. the story is in Matthias's point of view
"Among the Enemy" was a good book with its suspense sadness and the horrors of the truth in their daily lives killing innocent by standards like the third children in the world and the rebels.
This book was ok. It had good suspense and was sad in some parts. It was very easy to read and understand.
This was a great book!!! Action Packed and full of mystery, danger and adventure. I couldn't put the book down.
Among the Enemy is the 6th book in the Shadow children series. It is full of plot twist and exciting moments so, fair warning, there are a couple of spoilers.Since this is the 6th book in the series, there is some background information you might want to know; in this country that they live in (never specified), it is illegal to have more than two children due to a drought and the famines. However, many people continued to have children, which forces those poor third children into hiding from th [...]
Small thoughts: Not as suspenseful as the previous novel, but the plot is just as good. One of the most important aspects of this novel, to me, were the themes and how it questions morality. If your best friend were hurt and other innocent children are also hurt, would you risk everything for the innocent children, or help your friend instead?Literally, I'm dying over the fact that Margaret Peterson Haddix's themes are so amazingly developed and make you think.Interesting Quotations:(view spoile [...]
Matthias is a illegal third child,he is illegal because there was not much food around the world and you could only have two children, the population police are looking for third children kids and take them to the population jail.Matthias has two friends,Percy and Nina and they one day the population police catch them and they start shooting each other and Percy and Nina get injured. But Matthias finds a random room inside the ground and they have food in there so he brings in his injured friends [...]
I read the first five books in this compelling series quite some time ago, and I read those books in Braille. I tried to find Braille versions of the last two books in the set, but I was unsuccessful. So I was delighted when I searched the Library of Congress catalogue of audio books available for loan to blind or physically handicapped patrons and discovered they were available for download.I wanted to plunge right in and devour them, but I was deep in another series. If I read two books simult [...]
He felt the tears start in his own eyes. Wailing, the commander grasped Matthias's hand and buried his face in Matthias's blanket, and the two of them sobbed their hearts out together - the Population Police commander and the illegal boy. Both, in their own way, abandoned.★★★★★★★★☆☆ - 8/10I think this has been my favorite book in this series so far. The new angle is refreshing, both plot-wise and character-based. I love the dip into enemy lines: first addressed in Among the B [...]
" These are innocent children. What you're doing is a sin and an abomination." Through the story, Margaret Peterson Haddix tells a story about Matthias. He lives in a school called Niedler School with his two friends Percy and Alia. One day the population police takes Percy,Alia, and Matthias to work for the police. The three escape from them and then Matthias accidentally helps rescue a police officer and ends up in the enemy headquarters. He meets his friend Nina and helps her by spying the co [...]
"How could we do any of those things without becoming as bad as the Population Police ourselves?" - Nina, p. 107Some things that stood out to me in this book were the moral dilemmas & constant guilt (is it ok to do evil for a just cause?), the way Matthias was empowered to go to such great lengths out of his love for Percy & Alia, Samuel's example and how Matthias gradually came to understand it, and then how he finally chose to follow Samuel's example with an act of heroism in the end. [...]
Mathias was a third child during a time when when third children were illegal. When he and his friends escape the population police, Mathias accidentally saves the life of one population police officer. Regarded as a hero, he is treated like a son by the commander and is enrolled as an officer himself. There he meets friends he had lost track of, and, together, they plan another rebellion.Although Haddix creates a wonderful world, here, and populates it with realistic characters, I found this pa [...]
I thought this book was interesting and how they has spies on the inside (Hercules Mulligan!!!!) in order to overthrow the population police (sort of) and almost come full circle. The first book they had the rally where Jen died and now through all of these characters stories we see something similar starting to happen. They want to rebel and have been doing that in their own way and it becomes stronger the later you get into the series. I am excited to see how the last book plays out it will be [...]
Definitely an incredible book! This was a great addition to the series and a wonderful way to develop Matthias's character some more! My one issue was that I've never done well with series that alternate the point of views. I always do better with series that are told strictly by one character. (i.e. Harry Potter, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Percy Jackson, etc) I do recommend this book though! It was suspenseful and exciting as all the others!
Haddix does it again with another thrilling and suspenseful novel. Gosh, I can't get enough of this series. Another great addition and I love that it brings back some main characters from the previous books. WOW. Keep them coming!
