Another great book in this series. Again, really a "mystery" here, other than solving problems and learning more about the towns history / Isadora's plan. This one was full of emotion and dark powers and romance. Poor Chloe has so much on her plate I can't imagine dealing with it all. There are some very big choices to be made in this book, about love, about fate, about choosing a town over a child, etc. It was really well done and easy to read. The characters are interesting and I'm looking for [...]

Fiction is about making up a story but far too many spectacular, spooky titles, fizzle into debunked endings. Barbara Bretton has the gumption to bring on the paranormal! She is enormously funny but in no way that dims the vibrant ambiance of magic. At last, here is a superbly-written cast of characters that deals daily with the unseen realm. I enjoy the concepts of series in the vein of Madelyn Alt and Mary Stanton but mystical content was sparse. Barbara rewards our craving for etherealness. I [...]

I love that Chloe embraces both sides of her background in this book, she is both human and a sorceress. She’s still learning her powers which provide some laugh out loud moments, like when Luke ends up the size of a Ken doll. Luke is amazing to me, willing to stand beside Chloe in the face of things he can’t even begin to understand. That’s true love. In a romance, the hero and heroine are most important to me, and I adore these two.Their relationship does have some rough spots, which is [...]

This was a good follow-up to Casting Spells. I enjoy it when authors use the same setting/town and characters to write multiple books and as always, Barbara Bretton is a master storyteller. The plot was good, but I felt like it was the same thing over and over again. Chloe must choose between between humans and magick creatures and the townspeople all distrust Luke. Sometimes that aspect felt a little slow. I also thought the townspeople were extra mean and nasty this time. They put so much pres [...]

This is the sequel to CASTING SPELLS and has three point-of-view characters, all of them still sounding so similar I had to page back on occasion to see who was talking.I liked the characters and the magic, but knitting had even less to do with the magic in this book, even though two of the point-of-view characters were knitters. While some of the conflict in the story was satisfactorily resolved, the ending was a bit of a cliff-hanger, so there will need to be a follow-up. I hope the author figu [...]

Although Bretton's wit is just as apparent in this novel as it was in Casting Spells, she handles the delicate subject of a child's death with care and sensitivity. Anyone who has gone through anything similar will recognize this. For the knitters and crocheters there is a special treat, a collection of knitting tips and a scarf crochet pattern for the beginning level. I might give that one a try.And finally, in an author's note, Barbara Bretton pays tribute to her mother, the wonderful lady she [...]

3.5 stars, good and despite it having been several years since I read the first one I didn't feel terribly lost. My only complaint is that we were left with a pretty decent cliff hanger.

Every thing is finally working out for Chloe Hobbs, half sorceress half human and mayor of Sugar Maple, Vermont. That is until her lover’s ex turns up claiming to be haunted by her dead child – in Laced With Magic by Barbara Bretton. As well as being mayor of Sugar Maple, Chloe is the owner of a celebrated knitting shop. The shop is so popular that at times Chloe has difficulty keeping up with requests for yarn. Chloe sometimes wonders if its popularity is due to some kind of spell that has b [...]

Another delightful bit of knitting fluff. I recommend this to knitters and only to knitters. If you don't knit, you're not going to find my favorite quotes relevant to anything."Suddenly I had everything I had ever dreamed about: magick and love and enough yarn to last ten lifetimes.""Believe me, you know you love a guy if you're willing to knit a pair of socks for his size-twelve feet." My husband wears 12.5 EEEE. I am not effing around. This is love, people."Hadn't a lovely selkie couple from [...]

I didn't like this as much as I liked the first one. The subject was dark and sad. There wasn't as much about the characters beyond what was revealed in the first book. Very little to hold me in. I gave up about halfway through the book. Flipped to nearly the end and seriously, it was as if I was reading the same scene all over.

The jumping around between Chloe and Karen was confusing at times! Especially when things were moving along quickly and things were already slightly confusing as it was, but I still enjoyed it. I do wish there was a bit more interaction with the residents in Sugar Maple since they're always fun.

LACED WITH MAGIC by Barbara Bretton was a beautifully light tale of magic and romance. I’m not sure what I was expecting when I picked up LACED WITH MAGIC, but this book exceeded that. The story was fantastic, the suspense full and captivating, and to top it all off the romance was completely delicious. If you’re looking for a good Romance with a nice touch of magic, LACED WITH MAGIC is it.Readers were first introduced to Chloe, part sorceress and knit shop owner, in Bretton’s first book, [...]

This review was originally posted on my review blog : Falling Off The Shelf (3.5 Rating)Chloe Hobbs is a sorceress-in-training, as well as the owner of a extremely popular knit shop called Sticks and Strings. As a knit shop owner, Chloe has it made. She has an unlimited supply of yarn that never tangles and a huge fan club. If life were this easy, I think we would all be especially greatful. Outside of the knit shop, Chloe has a whole new set of problems. She's just getting used to having a huma [...]

I read this book without reading the first book in the series, and now I regret it. The author did a very good job of filling the reader in on everything that happened, so now I'm torn. On the one hand, I enjoyed this book so much that I'd like to go see what happened before. On the other hand, I feel like I already know what is going to happen. This was a really fun read. Warning: This volume ends on a cliffhanger! These books are surprisingly well-written. I enjoyed how this book was fluffy and fun, yet at the same dealt with some serious issues. Many romance stories end after the chase and the couple getting together. This book gives us a glimpse into what happens that isn't magically happily-ever-after. Barbara Bretton does a good job dealing with the dynamics of Chloe meeting Luke's ex. They don't love each other at first sight, even if they're both knitters, [...]

A horrible disappointment after I had enjoyed the first book so much. As with the first book, the only thing that really annoys me about Laced with Magic is the attitude shared by Chloe and the citizens of Sugar Maple that Chloe is somehow obligated to stay in the town, protect the town, get together with an appropriate man (i.e. magical and preferably of their choosing), and have babies. They all act like she owes them. Yes, they raised her when her parents died, but they didn't do it for her own sake; they did it to keep their precious town protected. Even her s [...]

Book two in the Sugar Maple series is very good. The way the story is continued is really well done and makes sense with the original story and characters, but with a new story line and different challenges for Chloe and Luke to face.Chloe's magic has finally come in, and she has won Luke, so she figures it's only a matter of time until the required daughter comes along to fulfill the prophecy and keep the town where it is.But, of course, that would be too simple!
