The book reads like a disjointed novel, none the less engaging for that form. Sergio Ramirez is not only a gifted novelist, but a former vice-president of Nicaragua and leading figure in the Sandinista Revolution. The timeline at the end provides some narrative structure to the author's detailed reminiscences of life on the Left.

This is my first shot at reading a contemporary Nicaraguan author in Spanish. It is a very personal account of Sergio Ramirez's experiences during the [attempted] Sandinista Revolution.
