Mr. Stark has quite an imagination. I liked that about this collection. 3.5/5.0 stars.Reviewed for Bitten by Books. Http://bittenbybooks.
This review is a little different from the reviews I usually do. You can see the explanation on the blog: kaylasreadsandreviewsKayla's review of Vampire and Plain Terror sections:At first, I thought Cuentos was going to start out as a young adult short story book. Wow, was I wrong! The first story about the boy collecting cans seems like it could be read by older teens, but the rest of the stories are really graphic. One of the stories involves rape, but doesn't go into much detail. I liked most [...]
My first introduction to Edwin Stark's work was through The Karaoke Duo Vs The Karaoke Zombies and Aftermath and Other Zombie Shorts so you may understand that I was expecting more of his tongue-in-cheek humor in Cuentos. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Edwin's talents also lie is more serious fiction as well, as Cuentos shows.Cuentos is a collection of short stories that entertain you starting with vampires and ending with a device that can change the Universe. In between, you see a few [...]
I enjoyed the author's voice in these short stories! He prefaced each one with some insight of his own which helped set the scene that I really enjoyed as much as the stories themselves. All the characters and worlds were well developed; they really drew me into the stories. I don't recall any typos at all. The author's first language is not English and is evident in some of the wording of his earlier works, but he has such a way with words that it did not take away from the stories at all. I wo [...]
From vampires to science fiction, Stark's Cuentos has a little bit for everyone. I'm usually not a fan of short story collections, but Cuentos was pleasantly surprising. My personal favorite was the first story-The Hunter. For anyone that thinks they've read every possible spin on the vampire storyyou ain't seen nothing yet!The author's introductions were warm and inviting and the stories made chills run down my spine as I sat on the edge of my seat waiting for the next bout of awesomeness. For [...]
This is a really good collection of short stories covering both horror & sci-fi genre's. Each story has a brief intro by the author regarding it's background which make entertaining reading in their own right. For me the stand out stories from the collection were the first four vampire tales as they all cross over one way or another but also lay the foundations for another book by Edwin Stark, The Clayton Chronicles.Get it, read it & rate it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I haven't had a book of short stories to read in awhile, and I enjoyed this break from reading longer novels. From vampires to zombies to sci-fi space stories, Edwin Stark's descriptive writing style is great and keeps you reading. He shares some creepy and twisted tales in this collection, and I recommend it for anyone looking for that genre.
RhondaThis review is from: Cuentos (Kindle Edition)I truly love mysteries, but short stories are just fun. Combine a mystery with a short story, then throw in a vampire hunter, a werewolf, and a few other gory creatures, and you've really got me. I highly recommend this book, but only for the daylight hours, unless you don't mind losing sleep at night.Rhonda
This collection of stories reminded me of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone. I recomend this book to anyone who enjoys a short story to wisk them away for a while.
