A Love Rekindled – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat‘Jane and Joan’s sobs mingled, and they ran out of the room, tears gushing down their cheeks. Ovie came in soon after. “What is this I hear? I saw the twins on my way here.” “Kevwe may have broken up with Efe…” Efe looked up to her. “Is there any doubt about it? His father told me. I’d been hoping he would call, but he hasn’t.” “So he couldn’t face you to tell you himself?” Ovie demanded as [...]

A LOVE REKINDLED by MYNE WHITMAN is a passionate love story. Efe and Kvewe are both from Nigeria. However, both are from different tribes. Efe is an Itsekiri. Kvewe is an Urhobo. Old tribal wounds still exist in the heart. Unfortunately, the disunity between these two tribes is not just emotional. There are horrible battles in the streets between tribal members. As a matter of fact, Kevwe's father, an Urhobo, saw his father murdered by the Itsekiri. Early in their relationship Kevwe and Efe disc [...]
Rating 3.5.This title of this story basically summarizes what happened. A young college student named Toritsefe Sagay (Efe) met and fell in love with a fellow student named Kevwe Mukoro. They were torn apart for over 7yrs, but a chance business meeting between Kevwe’s twin broter Ofure and Efe paved the way for the former lovers to confront each other. Instead of getting closure, Efe and Kevwe discovered that their feelings had not changed. They had to make a choice of whether to let the past [...]
I won this book on First Reads and thought it would be your average romance novel, but it was much more than that. Myne Whitman has conveyed the Nigerian culture through the language and syntax in a very effective way which I think enhanced this story of love into a much deeper and invigorating narrative. This novel takes the form of two parallel stories, one of Efe and Kevwe's meeting and falling in love at university and the other ten years later when Efe and Kevwe discover they reside in the [...]
Imagine breaking up with the man of your dreams, hankering after him and harbouring hurt and disillusionment for years and then, out of the blue, up pops his identical twin brother to bring back all those feelings that had lain buried. By the cover of Love Rekindled I believed I was getting a light-heartened romance and for die-hard romantics like myself I wasn’t disappointed. It was eloquently written, almost on the verge of literacy.Efe and Kevwe met years back and they fall in love and thin [...]
i won this book in a contest and i was asked to give a review if i felt like i wanted to. i truly enjoyed the book the hero and heroine were both intriguing and complex and pulled me right into the story. it was a lovely story of love and forgiveness and how differences don't seem so big when you love the person so for themself.i also enjoyed the fact that even with the hero being an alpha he could not intimidate and she gave as good as she got. the plot was also very good as it was not one of t [...]
Let me say I'm a huge fan of Nollywood. Being that as it is, I thought how interesting to read a book about Nigerians. However, this was a hard read for me bc of the choppiness in the book. The back and forth between the decades was a distraction. In addition, there were a few cultural references that could've been explained for those who have not been exposed to that culture. Overall, I gave it 3 stars bc it was different and eventually I was able to get into the story (sorta like the first tim [...]
Myne has woven a tale of the past and present so beautifully; the tale of a love extinguished by human foibles and prejudices yet reignited by the enduring human spirit. The characters live and breathe across each page and the reader follows them on a journey of rediscovery and healing. This is the book of the season. Don't miss it.
Do you really want to know what I thought about this book? Well, I'll tell you one thing: I'm still on the fence about it. I didn't necessarily hate the book or loved the book. It wasn't great yet it wasn't mediocre. I think it has great potential, but did this book blow me out of the water? Not at all.Would I read another book by this author?Probably not. Why?Because I just couldn't connect with the author or the book itself. I want a book that moves me and makes me hunger for more. This book did [...]
Ten years ago, Efe Sagay dreams of winning the United States Visa Lottery, until she meets Kevwe Mukoro in University. Kevwe is happy to remain in Nigeria; only he wants Efe by his side. Over time, Efe finds true love with Kevwe, and promises to marry him. Their dreams unravel when Efe wins an American Visa, and fresh violence erupts between their warring ethnic groups. Now, Efe is back in Nigeria, and she knows it’s a matter of time before Kevwe returns to her life. Will they be able to rekin [...]
This is a touching and real romance with the added bonus of Nigerian culture. I love the way Efe faces and overcomes her own insecurities and doubts, and I just plain love Kevwe. For fans of romance, I highly recommend both of Myne Whitman's books.
I did not really like it. The Nigerian history was really interesting though but not really dwelled on. I did not understand the political aspect of the book but would like to learn about it more. Maybe if you have Nigerian background, this will be much appreciated.
I highly recommend this book for anyone FTC: I received a free copy of this book and was not reimbursed in any other way.
