This book is an engaging intro to the outdoors for kids. I hope it will engage my own when they are a little older, starting around 6 or so. The photos and activities should be appealing, but from there they will have to search out other sources. As I write this, we are having a blizzard in New England. I think the plaster casts of snow prints activity might be a fun use of the book right away.

great for slightly older kids (elementary school) -L is camping obsessed (funy, since we've never been camping with him) - and this is a great reference for everything from making a tent to activities with bugs and track identification. cute!

This book is awesome!! If you feel like you've read all the books on the topic, there are likely some new ideas in here for you. For instance: bug vacuum bug catcher. Suck 'em through a hose. No, you won't swallow a fly.
