The Pleasure Dial was such an enjoyable read that I felt a bit sorry when I finished it! Set in Hollywood during the Golden Age of Radio, the novel never wavers in its vibrant, lively pacing and flawlessly entertaining storyline. I frequently found myself caught between laughing out loud and beaming with delight at the charm and wit that abounds in the prose, from the dialogue to the description to the narrator's internal musings. (This book also includes the phrase "freelance sex goddess," whic [...]
How can you not love an author who focuses first on his heroines' intelligence and second on their sexual exuberance, with physical appearance taking third place? Like his first novel, Rock My Socks Off, Jeremy Edwards' The Pleasure Dial showcases a smart, sexually insatiable woman and the bright but totally laid back guy who loves her. It's the nineteen thirties. After communing with his favorite mannequin Trixie, New York humor writer Artie Plask decides to take the plunge and accept a job off [...]
Subtitled An Erotocomedic Novel of Old-Time Radio, Jeremy Edwards' The Pleasure Dial is just that - an erotic, comedic, romp up and down the dial of 1930s entertainment.Living in the digital age, it's hard to imagine a time when radio had quite the presence and significance it did back in its heyday, but Edwards does a superb job of capturing that. His is not a story of shock jocks and washed-up DJs, of commercialized entertainment, or canned amusement. Instead, it's the story of actors, comedia [...]
In a sense this book gets my highest recommendation because I lent it and my Kindle to my flatmate when she asked me to suggest some light bedtime reading. I don't like recommending books and especially not dirty ones so I hope you appreciate what a rare gesture this was.Did my flatmate like it? She did. She agreed that it was funny, light, charming, and erotic. It's sexy without being shameful and clever without making any demands. It reminded me of the works of P.G. Wodehouse, which are likewis [...]
Here's the thing, folks. There are two authors of modern erotica that I like. Jeremy Edwards is one of them. Yeah, the sex is hot. It's really hot, and yet it's not the best thing about this book. The characters are hilarious, smart and totally likeable (except one, but you'll figure that out on your own.) The dialogue bursts with wit. The story is clever and perfectly paced. My husband didn't know I was reading something erotic because he kept hearing me laugh out loud.If you know someone who li [...]
Jeremy Edwards' latest book, The Pleasure Dial: An Erotocomedic Novel of Old-Time Radio, hits all the sweet spots with as many sex scenes as its zany plot twists. Set in the 1930s and starring a cast of characters hard at work on an old-time radio series, the book is all over the dial with sexy scenes in the bath, bedroom and even the back lots of a Hollywood sound stage.Artie Plask is the newest writer on the Sid Heffy show, and when he moves out to California to seek his fortune in radio, he r [...]
Jeremy Edwards has, in two novels and countless shorter pieces, managed to earn himself a spot as a master of erotocomedic fiction. The light, carefree but deeply affectionate way in which his characters interact with each other has become his trademark, and I'm hooked on it.See, here's the thing: Jeremy can write sex. Delectable, naughty, and unbelievably arousing sex. He does it often. The Pleasure Dial is full of it. Despite how lust-inspiring his sex scenes are, though, I found myself rushin [...]
Jeremy Edwards’ “The Pleasure Dial” takes the reader on a delightful journey through 1930s Hollywood when radio ruled the waves. Artie Plask is a New York comedy writer who accepts a job in Hollywood, working for Syd Heffy, a rather dated radio comic. Artie’s first day on the job is spent brainstorming around the pool at Heffy’s mansion with his team of comedy writers, including the intelligent, wise-cracking Mariel, and Heffy’s nymphomaniac daughter, Elyse, whose biggest turn on is [...]
What can i say? i love Jeremy Edwards' erotica. everything i have read of his has been the perfect mixture of erotic and funny and all wrapped up in a great story line. His new novel "The Pleasure Dial" did not disappoint in any of these areas. The style and language of this novel was particularly great because i really felt like i was a part of the LA radio scene back in the 40s. i could picture it all and let myself get taken away. the story itself was just so intriguing and the splashes of er [...]
Jeremy Edwards is an author I always enjoy, not least for his marvellous sense of humour. Jeremy is gifted at combining humour and erotic elements in a rollicking good story. No easy task. His latest story, THE PLEASURE DIAL, is a real treat and it instantly zipped me out of my own head, and kept me glued to the fun. Set in 1930's Hollywood, the story is both witty and salacious, presenting a unique kind of erotic read. I enjoyed every moment.
The Pleasure Dial by Jeremy Edwards is an animated and light-hearted story with lushly detailed and highly erotic sex scenes. To read my review in its entirety, please visit bookreviewsandmorebykathy.
This is the complete review as it appears at my blog dedicated to reading, writing (no 'rithmatic!), movies, & TV. Blog reviews often contain links which are not reproduced here, nor will updates or modifications to the blog review be replicated here. Graphic and children's novels reviewed on the blog will generally have some images from the book's interior, which are not reproduced here.Note that I don't really do stars. To me a novel is either worth reading or it isn't. I can't rate a nove [...]
What a pleasure to read a book in which the witty dialogue and intellectual curiosities are as erotic as the sexual encounters, making the book doubly hot and enticing!
The sample of this book hooked me and after having it on my Wish List for some length of time, I decided to go all the way and buy it. Boy was I glad I did that!Though I had a few misgivings at first concerning the time period (I know nothing about the 1930s!), all of that was shoved aside when I read about the ridiculous and ridiculously funny goings-on between Artie and his workmates. It's totally clear that the author enjoyed himself writing this and you can see it in the out-of-the-blue but [...]
Copy provided by NetGalley in return for an honest reviewThe best part of this book is the non-erotic part and I only scanned-reading the ero ones. The main story is about the Radio show The Elyse Heffernan Show vs her Daddy new drama show Sidney Heffney Dramatic Culture Hour and the writers conspiracy between them. The description of the writing process and the intriques were brilliantly written and made it interesting to follow. I laughed in some partsSid went into drama because it gives him l [...]
When I saw this listed as an erotocomedic novel, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was concerned the comedy would overwhelm the sex, that it would reduce the sex to crude jokes and that the humour would be of the lowest common denominator type. I was so, so wrong. This is a very smart, very funny book that balances erotic situations with witty wordplay and crazy twists. The plot unfolds at a brisk pace and Edwards does not shrink away from constantly raising the stakes. The characters have to be qu [...]
This story takes place in 1934 and a gag writer from New York Artie Plask, is offered a writing job in Hollywood with the top radio show. Once he arrives he finds himself in a home with other writers not in a building and a beautiful women swimming naked in the pool. Finding it difficult to concentrate. He also meets the top writer who also turns out to be a very attractive lady that he feels an attraction for. After a few meetings they begin a series of erotic escapades from their apartment t [...]
First off. I did not like this book; hence me only giving it 1 star. Why? Sure, some of the sex scenes were hot and enticing, but that's a long stretch. The book was only 170 pages, and about halfway I was skimming through the pages looking for the next romp session. I could care less about the side story. And the side story: A bunch of radio writers are fired, and the free loving (and naked loving) daughter of the radio host is sad that she wont' be able to enjoy the writers time (and penises). [...]
Jeremy does it again! A must read!
This is not my usual type of read but was happy with it. Funny and sexy all at once. Give it a shot, you will be pleasantly surprised;)
Exactly what an erotic novel should be, Sexy, witty and smart! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to raise their temperature.
