S.M. Oberhansley's first pubished novel was a brilliant start to what I hope will be a long career of giving to the public a smartly crafted Zombie story. It was the authors vision of the bloody, violent, horrific Zombie apocalypse to come. After reading this I want to build a underground bunker and prepare for the disaster to come. The premise was very realistic. You could see how the wheels could be set in motion for this sort of event to happen. The writing was such that you came to care for [...]

I found this book to be a refreshing change from the normal zombie book. The characters in the story started off at ground zero of the outbreak and for a long time believed what the media said about the zombie only being sick people. They dealt with attacks by trying to just push them away and not kill them. But when it did happen, they were left with the emotional stress of killing what they thought were human beings. It wasn't until close to the end when they began to realize there was a lot m [...]

It's truly a challenge to find a book like this. It's rare you find:1) A female author writing in the zombie genre.2) An indie book that is so well-edited.3) A zombie book that does not have the stereotypical ex-military man as the lead character.4) A zombie novel that actually deals with what the reality of a zombie apocalypse would be like, instead of just being a slaughter-fest of the undead. To find all four of those elements in one book is a godsend! I loved the characters- realistic people [...]

An easy to read book, although I enjoyed the first half of the book a lot more than the second half. I was starting to dislike the main character at that point, which is not a good thing for a zombie apocalypse story, where I tend to look for heroic characters. However, I did like that there are a lot of scenes where one or more of the main characters are lost, instead of everyone in the group miraculously escaping close calls.I was going to give the book a 4 rating, but ultimately decided on a [...]

Loved that it wasn't ex-military. Characters had some flaws. The main character had a habit of lying to get what she wanted, but I could see it being justified in her eyes to get to her kids. I liked the twist of different reanimation times for different people. The ending was crazy insane intense. The last bit has me biting my nails waiting for the next installment of the series. Lots of emotions, lots of action, lots of gore, lots of zombies.

Wow. I first came to know about S. M. Oberhansley when I read about her donating proceeds from her book to the Newtown tragedy. I thought, well, I need to buy some to contribute to this. I'm glad I did because she is one fantastic author! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have recently purchased book 2, Resurgence, which I can's wait to start. She fills the book with twists and surprises and oh, don't get too attached to the characters. She's not afraid to let some of them go either.

This book was great!!
