"Return to Me with all your heart." --Joel 2:12Prize-winning author Paula Cappa and I are friends; but this particular book was one that I purchased, not a free review copy. Though I'd read some of her short stories, this was my first introduction to her long fiction. It should be said at the outset that the author may not have been well served by the cover art here; I could see it causing many readers to dismiss the book as erotica (or coming to it with that eager expectation and being disappo [...]

I came across Night Sea Journey thanks to my feed on , and decided to take a chance on it. The author sent me a message advising what I would be in for and inquired if I would still be interested in reading, and considering some of the things that I have read in my day, I sent her back a reply advising I had no problems reading about any of them. So, Paula Cappa sent me a copy of Night Sea Journey, and let me tell you, from the very beginning, it was like nothing that I have read. The book start [...]

Editorial ReviewsFrom the San Francisco Book Review, 2014: 5 stars ***** "Night Sea Journey is like reading a Dan Brown book with a wicked twist: it has real demons. Readers will be taken on a continual thrill ride. Excellent and impossible to put down. A fast-paced thriller where reality is blurred and faith is tested, guaranteeing to keep you enthralled until the very last word.""Paula Cappa’s new novel Night Sea Journey is a powerful page-turner – enigmatic, surprising, and completely en [...]

NIGHT SEA JOURNEY: A Tale of the SupernaturalBy: Paula CappaI received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.Kip Livingston is an artist living in an isolated cottage on Horn Island. Every night she experiences vivid nightmares. But her nightmares are much more extreme than other people's. In fact, it seems that her nightmares follow her into real life and she has no idea how to make them stop. Father Garcia is a Street Preacher in Chicago who is anything but [...]

When I first began reading Night Sea Journey, I was quickly reminded of The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. Just like Damien Karras, Raymond Kera is also skeptical of his belief in God, Christianity, and his purpose in the Church. Kera uses his knowledge of the New Testament and personal experience to decipher what Kip is really dreaming about, giving the reader some different and new insight on the overly used biblical apocalyptic text. Unfortunately, Kip Livingston plays a different role. Wh [...]

Real and surreal!Reading the Night Sea Journey, A Tale Of The Supernatural, the debut novel by Paula Cappa, felt so much like watching some Hollywood supernatural paranormal movie. It reminded me so much of the movie Constantine (2005).A Chicago catholic priest, Father Raymond Kera, comes to small town Horn Island to save talented artist Kip Livingston, the damsel in distress, not just in real life but in the world of dreams, from her tormentor, Lucifer, the fallen angel. And these are dreams th [...]

So I read through most of the reviews and was worried if this book was worth reading much less purchasing. However, I followed that little voice in my head and did make that honourable purchase. First of all, for only $2.99, this book is definitely worth the price. It was my first time reading a supernatural novel. But since I have recently developed the habit of reading books, I thought it was worth the try.Paula Cappa is an excellent writer. I love when a writer can immediately make the settin [...]

I love beautiful prose!NIGHT SEA JOURNEY is as nearly a perfectly written novel as I have read in a long time. Paula Cappa's command of the English language makes it impossible to put this book down. I was captivated and mesmerized from the very first page. I am not a religious person, neither by practice, nor by inclination, yet I am fascinated by religion from a purely academic perspective. I learned some interesting things about Catholicism, and the priesthood, that were heretofore unknown to [...]

Night Sea Journeyby Paula CappaThis is one fast paced book that will keep you glued to your seat asking, 'Can dreams really come true?' The writer tackles dream interpretation, religious philosophy, the supernatural and tosses in just the right amount of romance to leave the reader quivering, wondering what will happen next. Her characters come alive with the complexity of their individual dilemmas, Father Raymond Kera, who is questioning the strength of his faith. Father Garcia, Kera's friend, a [...]

This book started off a tad confusing. Your senses are assaulted immediately with incredibly imaginative scenes, that at first you will struggle to figure out what they mean. After a while you finally have a much better idea on what this book is about. The author has an incredible imagination and knows how to put that to paper so we can enjoy it as well. The pace of the book was very good, not rushing the reader not dragging the story out. The characters are quite the mix that all play well off [...]

one of the best books I've read in alone time!Paula sucked you in from page 1 to the very end. A dream is not always what it seems, can it be reality? is it, read it and find out this book will have you thinking! A definite page turner, great writing and characters. I tend to like Garcia bad boy, evil, what more can you ask for kips character is great and makes you feel like your right there with her, my kind of read. I definitely recommend this book you can't go wrong. It will leave you thinkin [...]

Maybe it's just me, but I can honestly say that I have no idea what was going on through most of this book. Dreams? Visions? Lucid dreams? Shared dreams? Prophecies? Memories? Perhaps, if I knew more religious theology, I'd have more of a clue about this story. There are a lot of references to the Catholic Church - and it's laws and politics - that, not being catholic, I'm unfamiliar with. I did like the fact that it was very well edited and had only a few errors in spelling. I also loved the au [...]

Words struggle to capture the sheer magnificence of this novel. Cram-packed with so many sub-genres within horror, along with captivating themes and issues. I was buzzing with adrenaline from start to finish. Never a dull moment, never a scene that wasn't essential to the story, and never a chapter that didn't have you gasping in shock and humming in intrigue. This is a journey like no other. The first chapter hurls you into a world of struggles. As we are given the current crises of three charac [...]

I loved it from the very beginning and all the way to the end. Paula took me on a journey through Kip's dreams of angels and demons. Or were they Kip's dreams? Great visual descriptive writing let me see Kip's paintings and let me experience the dreams along with Raymond, a priest who just met Kip. Toward the end of the book, Raymond asks this question to a friend. "Do you think its possible for a dream, a dream that is so powerful, so full of desire that the dream is capable of manifesting its [...]

I was given this book for an honest review. That being said, I found that I had trouble getting into it, and at times keeping up with it. For me it wasn't very fast paced and a bit too wordy in parts until you got into the meat of the story. THEN I couldn't put it down. THAT is the only reason I gave this book 4 stars. What I did admire is the tenacity of Ms. Cappa for taking on the Catholic church, and the ending had me looking at the end of days with new eyes. What a different way of looking a [...]

Night Sea Journey is a highly unconventional, complex and imaginative tale. Switching from dreams that manifest into reality back to reality, it was at times very difficult for me to follow. There is a developing relationship between a fallen clergyman, Father Raymond and Kip Livingston (the young woman having these dreams). It kind of reminded me of a movie with Robin Williams, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, so I’m sure there are those out there that will love this story but in the end, I appreciated [...]

What I loved about this book: The descriptions are wonderful, when I read I enjoy authors who take the time to describe in great detail everything about the scene they are writing about, Paula does just that, and I loved it. The only problem with the book: The overt religious themes and situations were a bit of a turn-off to me. Otherwise great job!

Love, romance, fantasy, religion all rolled into one!Paula Cappa successfully sucked me in and kept me captive with this fascinating fantasy story. I feel like she captured the perfect balance between real life and the fantasy world in this descriptive and at times terrifying story. It was hard to put this book down once the story started unravelling. It was compelling and full of romance, love, suspenseful fantasy, and little scary, the prefect recipe for the perfect storyline. Paula Cappa succ [...]

Paula Cappa brings to us a book that many individuals can relate to, reoccurring night mares. Although we usually only wake up a bit scared, Kip has to slay her night terrors and bury them. She found the only way to prevent her night terrors is to have a priest present. As much as Raymond wants to help Kipper, he is quite embarrassed went she enters his dreams about her. His occupation prohibits Ray from developing a relationship with her but there is defiantly a bond between the two. As I read I [...]

A supernatural thrill ride Paula Cappa does a great job in writing a story that will keep you guessing and turning the pages to find out what happens to our heroine next. Follow Kip Livingston as she takes a journey through the supernatural dream world. What happens when we can't tell dreams from reality? This story will have you trying to figure out what is real and what is dream. Great character development and excellent story. The supernatural genre is one of my favorite. I would recommend th [...]

3.5 of 5 Stars Review CopyHave you ever had a meal at a fine restaurant where the atmosphere was captivating and the meal itself was beautifully prepared, but the food actually left you unsatisfied. For me, Night Sea Journey by Paula Cappa was a bit like that. The prologue takes us to Abasterson House, named for the angel who rules the fifth hour after sunset. Kip is having a recurring dream where she battles a firehawk, a fierce creature, with a chest full of orange flames. Then there's a giant [...]

Night Sea Journey, A Truly Sensational Stunningly-Dark Tale of the SupernaturalNight Sea Journey by Paula Cappa is a truly sensational stunningly-dark tale of the supernatural. Was captivated by the synopsis. It sounded dark and gritty. It appealed to me because of the story. It sounds like a fantasy tale that pops up in the genre of young adult so much these days. But on the other hand, it seemed darker and intended for older audiences. I downloaded anyway and was not disappointed. I found ther [...]

“Night Sea Journey…” is a supernatural fiction thriller with religion as one angle in the story. Kip Livingston, who lives on the coast of small town suffers with a same scary dream every night. The dream is about a serpent, which she calls Firehawk coming after her, when she awakens the dream is a reality and she kills this serpent and buries it every day. Well, it’s not plausible to anyone. Father Raymond must act and take risks to rescue Kip from this daily torture and as the book unf [...]

I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. Having read the work I will say that it was an interesting attempt at stylistic writing in the fantastical-realism genre. The author seemed to be trying to establish a modern, informal tone while also imparting a perpetual dreamlike quality. I have to be honest, for me the two didn't work together. While the dialogue was well composed and engaging, to me the narrative came across as stilted. It made for awkward readin [...]

It took me a bit to figure out the plot of this one, but once I got immersed into the story, it was so interesting to me. For one, it is something that isn’t overplayed and it is also rather frightening. I can’t imagine how I would feel if I had the kind of dreams Kip had. Since two of the 3 main characters in the book are priests, there are a lot of religious terms and facets that are discussed. This made the story seem realer, since we know some of these things to be true and that you can [...]

James Hulbert couldn’t have said It better, "A powerful page-turner-enigmatic, surprising, and completely engaging”.Cappa is a powerful writer with a strong vocabulary. You can tell that she is experienced. She captivates her audience with a very unique and intriguing plot. I have definitely never read anything like this novel before. Her descriptions, imagery and characters are so vivid and detailed (particularly of the paranormal creatures). The book is not excessively scary, but still; do [...]
