Left me feeling sad for Eloise and Ramona Only if their lives would not have been this tangledPoor Uncle Wiggly.

that's nice the uncle gave them the generic spoil sit to smell and spoil in. They had a house. They sit in it and smell cigarettes and alcohol and food and nice bed etc. and of course cry about the war and uncle wiggly and talk to a voice on the phone. decades and decades ago.

It's not often that I'm moved to tears when I read, but this story did exactly that. The breakdown of Eloise's facade, culminating in her taking it out on her little girl Ramona, is just heart-wrenching. A testament to loss of innocence and deepening misery everywhere, across generations.

A chilling insight into the American household, a complement to The Great Gatsby and resonant especially to those in Suburban America.

Fell in love with this book.

вроде-бы и история прозрачная. и язык волшебный. и история в некоторой плоскости близкая. а эмоциональный контакт не сложился.
