When I received this book I was unsure what to expect, what I discovered upon reading this book was it was a very easy book to get into and an even harder book to put down. I found an amateurs guide to the pursuit of happiness to be very informative and even funny at times all this while taking you through the trials and tribulations of life. I really enjoyed the way Britt Reints used the trials and tribulations of her own forth comings to make this book make sense, being a person who has had so [...]

There are a plethora of books out there on happiness - what makes this one different is the thorough acceptance that there is no easy way to just get happiness, that it's a constant journey and that you've never just "made" it because without attention then it doesn't stay in one state. Britt doesn't pull punches. In her own, inimitable style she lays bare her heart and her own journey to let people know what she learnt and how, and how you can use it yourself. The idea that sticks with me the mo [...]

What is missing from all of the other happiness books, you will find in this book! The author of The Amateur's Guide shares (honestly) her own real and personal struggles along with suggestions on finding happiness in our every-day that didn't feel preachy or overdone. The most important revelation to me was when the author discovered that happiness wasn't a goal to reach with an END, but (as the title suggests) an ONGOING pursuit.Filled with easy-to-read conversation-like writing, sprinkled wit [...]

Two things: I hate self-help books. Also, I helped edit this book. It didn't suck. The editing, I mean. This book was a joy to edit because it was maybe the first time I ever read a self-help book and felt like I learned something. Read this and you can get started on getting happier almost right away. You find real things you can do to increase your happiness. Most importantly, it's written in a voice we can all relate to, and Britt is not afraid to share her own twisted path to a happier life. Y [...]

The honesty of this book is humbling - very raw and personal. what I love the most is that the author DOESN'T set herself up as some guru for "one size fits all" because, let's face it, everyone defines and therefore finds happiness differently. Even at different stages of our lives, we do so. This gives you road maps, not only to pursue a happier life, but also to check in with yourself to identify what you have allowed to creep in that might be dimming your happiness. Read it. Share it. It's t [...]

This book isn't like many other books I've read about happiness. Most authors claim to have THE ANSWER. They lead you to believe that if you just do everything they suggest, you will be happy. And if you're not, there must be something wrong with you. This author shares her own experiences from her journey towards happiness. She assumes that every person's journey will be different and makes suggestion for how the reader can find their own path toward happiness.

This is the first self help book I've read and I'm glad to say that my hesitation to explore the genre was unfounded. Reints is not all touchy feely. Her writing us clear and direct. I love that the book is built on action items to enable the reader to create their own happiness. This is a must read if you, like me, realize that your own attitude is the cause of your discontent, and you are ready to make changes.

Well, I loved this book - but then again, I wrote it. :-)This book is not meant to be a one-stop-shop for happiness. Instead, I offer five happiness maps that you can use to find your own unique path to happiness. I believe that you already have everything you need to be happy, and this book will help you access that.

I thought the approach to divide the book in "roads" to happiness was great. The personal take on it was appreciated and I thought it was refreshing to read a bit of a different take on the subject :)

This is probably more of a 3.5 star book, but I'll round up because I generally enjoyed it. There's not a whole lot of new material here, but the way the author presents it is unique and forces a slightly different perspective on happiness.
