" A Tight Grip" by Kay Rae Chomic which I won from Giveaways is a delightfully whimsical tale that's centered around golf, friendships and the joys and perils of middle age. It begins when forty-six year old Janet Harriett Parker Swink (Par), a local golf champion is stopped for running a red light on the way home. With her husband Nick vomiting in the back seat Par assumes that Dee-Dee Virgil will give her a warning and send them on their way, but the officer who's proud of her arrest record t [...]

Some disclosure: I won a copy of this book in a Goodread’s Giveaway and I entered because the author is a colleague. But having gotten up early this morning to finish the book because I fell asleep reading it last night, I can say without bias that I am glad I did. This is a well-crafted story and it drew me in from the moment that Par gets arrested. That’s not a spoiler - it happens in the first few pages. The week that follows is an exercise in dealing with Life as Par manages her family, [...]

A novel about golf, love affairs, and women of a certain ages it is all that, but so much more! I read this in 2 sittings (only because I had to go to work). it is not so much a novel about golf (I am glad to say because I am not a great follower of golf), but a novel about the fun and frustrations of family, friends and love.It is a good easy read, fun but also thought provoking. I am sure we will all see a little bit of ourselves in the main characters.Definitely recommended and one I will be p [...]

Par is a golf champion, unhappy wife, bereaved lover, bereft empty-nester, jealous sister, and a good friend. This "pack" of women friends, three plus Par, is what saves her life and what makes "A Tight Grip" a different sort of novel. A great read with an unexpected and very gratifying happy ending."

Both my husband and I read Chomic’s book. While I am not a golfer, he is a golf enthusiast. Interestingly, we came to the same conclusion—this is a very well-written book which moves quickly through life’s dramas to the sport of golf and to the joy of life. Chomic develops her characters well, such that readers feel part of her inner circle, a circle that includes Chomic.

i really enjoyed this easy read. the poignant subject matter is deftly handled, making this a really fun and enjoyable read. i hope to read more of these charming characters :-)

Love this book!!! It was a great weekend read.

Wish I could give this 3 and a half stars. A Tight Grip is a fun read with a valuable lesson for our ultra-competitive world. Par Parker is a middle-aged golf champion determined to win an important tournament to prove she still has it at age 46. But one challenge after another, starting with a DUI arrest and smear campaign, force her to confront unresolved issues from her past and a less-than-satisfying present. She draws on support from a group of best friends, but there’s upheaval there, as [...]

I received the book for free through First Reads.I really tried to like and enjoy the novel, but the self-centered and rather egoistic heroine was so boring that nothing could help me enjoy the story – neither her golf game, nor the endless changes in her life that she kept perceiving as life crisis, making it all about herself.

I wanted to like this book more. The middle-aged main character is very self-absorbed and egotistical. Some parts of the plot are interesting, but the pacing was really slow. Too much description about minor things.

Lots of fun. Glad I read it. Finally, a book which ends when it should.
