This novel is excellent. Of all of the indie novels I have read over the last few years, it is by far of the highest quality in terms of writing and story sophistication, and it's better than many traditionally published novels I've read. I am seriously impressed with Heather Heffner. The novel will please those who like vampire and werewolf stories. The interesting thing about that, is I really don't get into those stories (anymore--I was really into them for a while a few years ago and had my [...]

Citlalli and her family have come to South Korea to join their mother after their oldest sister, Marisol, disappeared after slowly weakening over a long period. In Seoul they face many difficulties acclimatising and fitting in with the culture around them – and they have not achieved the safety they sought. Raina, Citlalli’s sister starts to fall prey to the same symptoms as MarisolDesperate not to lose another sister, and frustrated by medicine’s inability to cure her, Citlalli pursues mor [...]

I'm torn between a three and a four star rating on this one. I went with the lower rating because the cliff hanger ending makes the novel feel very abruptly ended despite the 300+ pages. There's also some minor problems with the pacing (it drags in places), and a tension between the plot within the book and the overall plot arc of the series. Instead of the first book containing an independent and complete narrative that ties into the larger series arc, Year of the Wolf reads more like the first [...]

I want to start off by saying I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.I didn't want this book to end I want to find out what was next for Citlalli and Rafael in Eve. The ending was a little abrupt, but it just makes me want to get the next book in the series, Year of the Tiger. I really enjoyed the characters in this book, as well all of them were real and interesting. I highly recommend this book to those who like supernatural books. This has an interesting take on [...]

Refreshing and original take on Vampire and werewolves. The only drawback was it ends on a cliffhanger, not cool. Good thing I have the second book too.

This One May Leave You Howling For MoreThe Alvarez family has already been through more than its fair share of upheavals by the time we are introduced to this motley crew of characters. This is a family fractured by infidelity, illness, and loss. After the mysterious disappearance of their sick older sister Marisol, their wayward mother thunders back into their lives. Blaming the father, she takes her remaining three daughters off to Seoul, South Korea, where she has made a modestly successful l [...]

Heffner builds an extremely strong and powerful character while maintaining a softness that would seem illogical in the face of the life she's been forced to lead by environmental elements. This is a character who purposely gets lost on the streets of Seoul the first day she's there. Heffner poses this character to face incredible odds and imbues the reader with the sense of confidence in that she may not succeed but she will certainly do all she can to try. The connection that the author builds [...]

Year of the Wolf- Heather Heather. An entertaining read that makes you want to get the next book too. Citlalli Alvarez is an ordinary girl whose family has it's troubles, just like any other. Her mother and father live apart after her mother had an affair that resulted in the birth of her youngest sister, Raina. But things function as normally as they can when all the children live with their alcoholic, gambling father until their oldest sister Marisol is bitten and suddenly starts wasting away. T [...]

'Year of the Wolf' is the story of determined, outspoken teenager Citlalli and the changes in her life that force her face up to the horrifying truth of her sister's disappearance years before. Soon she must seek out the mysterious queen from the spirit world who means harm to her and her family.I could not put this book down! The interesting mix of urban and high fantasy along with well developed, enjoyable characters made for a tremendously enthralling read. I loved both the vividly described [...]

I received this book during a giveaway and was pleasantly surprised by how attached I grew to the characters, as well as how refreshing it was to explore an Asian-themed fantasy world. Although the familiar vampires show up that we see in urban fantasy nowadays, they are mixed together with a Korean spin on ghosts, nine-tailed foxes, and shapeshifters that give them a distinctly creative edge. I like fantasy books that take place overseas, like Karen Marie Moning's Ireland-based Fever series, so [...]

I read this entire book on one airplane trip! Needless to say, it entertained. This book is set in Seoul, and starts off with Citlalli and her sisters adjusting to life there. However, something bites her younger sister in a night club, and in the quest to cure her of the hallucinatory bite, Citlalli realizes she hasn't even begun to see weird yet. The author has one wildly creative imagination, and I loved the idea of the wandering ghosts and the chariot dragons! Citlalli was a fearless heroine [...]

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Year of the Wolf takes place in Seoul South Korea. The story follows Citlalli, a young woman who was uprooted from her American life and forced to move to Korea with her mother after her oldest sister disappeared without a trace. Now she has to try to rescue her sisters from the Vampires, and in the mean time being turned into a werewolf when she interferes in what she believes is a mugging of a homeless person by a couple of [...]

*I received this book free in exchange for an honest review*Year of the Wolf by Heather Heffner : Gripping, intriguing, and highly addictive… just a few words to describe this book. Set in Seoul South Korea, Citlalli finds herself in an odd situation, caught between the real world and Eve, she searches for her missing sisters. Mistaken for food, she’s changed into a Were, or werewolf, and ends up going head to head with vampyres. With the help of Rafael, her maker, they enter Eve on what see [...]

I bought this a few months ago based on a good review from Fangs for the Fantasy, especially because the main character is a WOC (a Latina teenager). It was on my TBR list for a long time after I bought it, I wouldn’t pick it up, because I was worried that it was yet another melodramatic YA vampire romance. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Citllali is the middle child in a big family. She’s impulsive, stubborn and fiercely protective of her family. But, like so many teenagers [...]
