Good start to the series. I liked the characters, but there are some issues. What I enjoyed:* The characters. Tess and Honey are great BFFs. Dahlia was adorable. The guys were likeable.* Good mystery * Recipes sound amazingWhat could be better: * I hate love triangles* Some things were a bit too convenient. (view spoiler)[Tess just happens to have a friend who can and will hack for her. A photo of Tad and Dahlia leads her to question parentage even though many have seen them together for 6 years. [...]

An easy read. Decent story line. An easy read. Decent story line. I was frustrated by some spelling, grammatical and even a plot error. All in all, it's worth reading when you want something lighter to read.

Exciting story (although it doesn't look very exciting from the cover) all about how the character is starting up a bakery and finds herself more than once as a suspect in a police investigation. She goes through the story trying to clear her name and only wants to open her bakery without interference, but it seems no matter what she does, the chaos follows her. Clean, fun, and suspenseful.

Brownies and Betrayal by Heather Justesen is a combination of delicious romantic options, baked goods, and a suspenseful mystery. We're introduced to Tess Crawford, a pastry chef who's moved from Chicago to small town Silver Springs after she's caught her fiance cheating on her. She's opening her own bakery and doing refreshments for a wedding when one of the wedding guests gets into a petty argument with her over her brownies. Tess later finds that guest murdered and she becomes a suspect when [...]

It was a great read for a sunny day. Fluffy, cute and sometimes funny. Also I liked that it included some receipts for desserts, that were mentioned in the book, I think I'll try some of them one day.

New series and author for me.Tess' best friend talks her in to moving back to Silver Springs, Arizona from Chicago to open up her own bakery after she catches her fiance cheating on her. Everything is going great, she has found a location for her bakery, the renovations are moving along until she finds the body of a woman that she had met the night before and had a disagreement with her. As if this wasn't enough her ex-fiance shows up in town to convince her to come back to Chicago and it doesn' [...]

Pastry chef Tess moves from Chicago to a small town to set up her own bakery after catching her fiance cheating on her. While setting up for a big wedding event, she has words with a snobbish bridesmaid who criticizes Tess's choice of pastries. The bridesmaid later turns up dead under the table holding the wedding cake and Tess is suspect. Upon further inspection, Tess learns the dead woman left behind not only a daughter, but a lot of people who didn't like her. Tess and her BFF Honey set out t [...]

Good mystery story.Tests just moved from Chicago to a little town in Arizona to open an award winning bakery near Prescott. First catering gig out, she crosses swords with the matron of honor and the next morning finds her body under the dessert table, making her a likely suspect. Figuring the local cops aren't going to look too hard for the real killer, Tess and her best friend start looking themselves. Throw in several good looking men and a surprise ending a and you've got a good book. Plus y [...]

A very Sweet and cozy mystery by Heather Justesen which will have you wanting to bake up the included recipes! Tess Crawford, has just moved to Silver Springs, AZ from Chicago after the death of her grandmother. The motivation for the move was actually due to finding her fiancé kissing a coworker at the Hotel where she baked the cakes for events and other mouthwatering deserts, such as the Rocky Road Brownies. Tess is thrown into a pool of murder suspects after her discovery of a dead body unde [...]

Cute. I read cozy mysteries with the expectation that they will be easy reading and I'll be able to discover the culprit before the detective. That didn't happen with "Brownies & Betrayal." As cozy mysteries go, this was okay--an easy read--although I found the idea that 30-something women were all about finding the next man a bit adolescent. This cozy mystery served its purpose; I read them after I have read a book that has been difficult (emotional, complicated) for the relief they provide [...]

Brownies and Betrayal by Heather Justesen is the first book in the Sweet Bites mystery series. Dessert chef Tess Crawford moves back to her home town of Silver Springs after catching her fiance cheating and looks at opening up a dessert bakery. Her first job is a wedding and she finds the body of one of the bridesmaids during the preparations. An enjoyable book with a likeable feisty main character. The recipes sound delicious. A nice start and I'm looking forward to reading more of the series.

This was a fun, quick mystery/ romance. I always like a little romance in my stories (sucker that I am). Clean read. Only draw back is when she mentions "Ethiopian famine victim" which I thought was in poor taste as the country should have been left off. Free from amazon bc I follow a book site on FB

Brownies & BetrayalA well-written murder mystery dealing with friends, enemies, love, (lost and found), deceit, honesty, love and hate. Moving back to your home town to start a new business when you catch your finance cheating is traumatic itself, but when you find yourself a suspect in a murder, it really ramps your blood pressure up.

This is the best cozy mystery I have ever read! Every time I figured out who did it, I turned out to be wrong. Fast paced, well written, light murder mystery with lots of twists and turns and a touch of romance.

Tess moves to a new town to start a new life as a pastry chef. Sounds so familiar. However, this mystery was different enough from the usual cozy mystery to keep me very interested. A few twists that surprised me and kept me reading.

A police detective and a paramedic Ditzy customers, who dump good baked goods on the then wants a replacement at a discounted price! Getting a hit on the head , and a dead body makes for interesting reading

This was a pleasant surprise; a quick, easy read with a very good mystery. I'd downloaded this last year and am glad I finally got to it. The hint of a possible triangle is a downer, though, as I really dislike that plot device. Regardless I already have the second one earmarked.

Cozy Cakes and SleuthingI enjoyed this book and Tess is a feisty character. Returning to her home town after finding her fiance with another, Tess finds a body and sets out to solve the murder. It was funny and poignant at the same time. A very good mystery book.

New to me author.I think this will be a good new Culinary Mystery series. Good strong characters and plot development. The author included some great recipes.

ūüėÄThis was a good cozy mystery. I would like to read more in the series and most likely will. I can recommend it.

2.5ish stars

Enjoyed it was a quick, can't put it down book. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Goodthe woman and her friend from years ago are back together in there small town where as he is going to start a new business.

Delicious readGreat mystery with twists that'll make your head spin. Plus, there are some yummy looking recipes I'm looking forward to trying.

OK read, characters could be filled out more. Some sequenses need revamping. They don't flow that well into each other. Lots of running around in the night.

B&B funThis was a fun read with enough twists, turns and humor too keep the reader in suspense. All this fun wrapped up in gooey goodness.

A great and fun mystery. Also some valuable recipes. Enjoy

It started off slow. Wasn't too bad.

Light reading and good dessertsMore and more stories have a food element to them, this is no exception! The mystery was somewhat convoluted, but made sense, in the end!

Brownies and Betrayal-- Sweet Bites, Book 1This was a good story, with good recipes. There was a few funny moments, and I enjoyed it very much.
