This is a difficult book to review. It's described as a literary medical thriller and it does fall into that genre but is perhaps more literary than 'thriller'. This is a genre I would normally expect to enjoy but I have to say from the outset that I did not enjoy reading this book and half way through was getting really annoyed.Looking at the other ratings on GR, they are clearly polarised between those who loved it for it's literary merits (4 or 5★) or those who hated it (1 or 2 ★). I'm go [...]

This is a great novel, that plays with the medical thriller genre and takes it to a whole new level. Check out my interview with the author here:fictionwritersreview/inter

It's very difficult to describe "Mercy 6" by David Bajo; is it speculative fiction, sci-fi, a medical thriller? All of these? Yes, I think all of these. ER doctor, Anna Mendenhall, is on duty when four people drop dead in her hospital. Her initial concern is a virus and the hospital is quarantined. But she soon surmises that what befell these patients, and soon two others, was not a virus but something microscopic and ballistic that struck them down. I can't claim to understand everything about [...]

I'm not sure what this book was trying to be. The dialogue and interactions were largely nonsensical, with philosophical waxing that was distracting. One doctor changes into the party dress of another minutes after meeting as a "disguise", then rides with a student to a bar and changes into the student's clothes, presumably in the taxi. I was hoping for a medical thriller written with accuracy, but was left very disappointed.

Interesting, unusual writing style, creative astrophysics.

Awful book. Terrible writing, confusing to follow, and nothing thrilling about it. Very disappointed because medical thrillers are my faves. Did not finish.
