As a Fifth generation New Zealander I found this book really interesting and pleasing. I guess we can be quite protective of our own corner of the world and quick to jump to the defense when people point out our faults. Alex Richards is not just another 'whinging pom' who comes out and spends his whole time comparing everything with 'back home'. He gives an honest and funny assessment with some great stories about his family's move to New Zealand. I think he does a great job in presenting the Ne [...]
I don't like to give only 2 stars but I can't quite justify 3. I did not dislike this book but it was really a glorified diary of the author's first years living in New Zealand. It does provide insights into New Zealand culture. The author's self deprecating humor keeps it readable.
A good read. Gives a lot of info on this country.I would have given stars but he rambled on a bit towards the end so pretty much skimmed the bit about hunting up hill and down dale. He went on a bit.
