Fans of the short-lived CW show Star Crossed will be able to fill the intergalactic romance void with FLUX. Author Ellie Carstens will transport you to a foreign land and beyond, filled with mystery, suspense, and unexpected love. We love it, so you should, too :)

Imagine the beautiful backdrop of a small Norwegian town, an island. Now imagine how different it must feel for a Canadian girl whose life has just been shattered, when she is sent to her estranged, biological father to rebuild her life in a land where she is the outsider who cannot even speak the language. As if the culture shock isn’t enough, Alaina finds that her father is a very special man, nothing like what she has been told all of her life and the incredibly handsome boy assigned to be [...]

Sexy Vikings? Check. Adorable father figure? Check. Funny dialogue? Check. Epic badass-ness? Check. Interesting and in-depth Norse mythology? Double check!Flux by Ellie Carstens has all the above and more. I’ll admit, the somewhat depressing beginning had me slightly wary of what was to come. It had a strange Twilight-esque feel to it. Sad teenage girl is relocated to a new place and meets mysterious, handsome boy who ends up being much more than he first appeared to be. Not being a big fan of [...]

As I began reading Flux it felt familiar and different at the same time. The blurb hints at what’s going on in this book. Only hints. There are many events occurring. Alaina surviving her mothers murderous rampage. Her relocation from Canada to the northern most part of Norway to live with a father she hadn’t seen since she was a little girl. Starting school where the spoken language isn’t English. And dealing with Kaius, the gorgeous young man assigned as her translator. And that’s just [...]

ARC given in exchange for an honest review. ;)While the book blurp was the first that caught my attention, I was glad for the chance to fully read the novel and write about it. For the lovers of Jennifer Armentrout's LUX series and Tessa Gratton's The United States of Asgard Flux combines in perfect harmoy, sci-fi, historical fiction and mythology not to mention romance! The story follows Alaina, a girl who's life had taken a grave toll and moves from Toronto to Norway. There she will have to de [...]

Flux is an intriguing title, blending historical fiction with paranormal romance in a way I really hadn’t ever seen before. It starts, quite literally, with a bang as fifteen-year-old Alaina witnesses the brutal murder of her step-father at the hands of her deranged mother. This event becomes the catalyst for her journey to Norway nine months later, where she’s reunited with the birth father she thought had abandoned her. What seems like a simple story of tragedy and healing soon takes an in [...]

There were many times during reading this book where I found myself getting emotional. This doesn't happen too often with me, so to say that I was impressed would be a great understatement. The main character in this novel is one that you just want to reach out and hug. She has been through so very much, and her spirit is indomitable, the type of person we all wish to be. I love it when that can be so clearly reflected through writing. As far as the writing goes, my honest opinion is that we hav [...]

Mild spoilerFlux offered so much, and delivered in many ways. With an interesting premise, it was a quick read, with a brilliant start. Carstens debut novel offers a fresh voice in her genre, and I was impressed with her take on the world she created. For me, Carstens strength in writing really showed when Alaina needed to go back in time to 12th century Norway. This part of the book was fascinating to read and I would have liked to spend longer exploring this world. Unfortunately, it felt rushed [...]

Had high hopes for this considering the rating, but found it a snore fest. So bloody dull and predictable.
