Rating - 4-1/2* - Plans had been made a long time ago where Mathilde Miller would one day marry Joshua Bowman, a long time family friend from Pennsylvania. Years later since her family moved away from Pennsylvania, Mathilde loved her life cooking at her family’s inn on the Virginia frontier. When her father hired Will McGlashen to run the blacksmith forge for him life changed. Mathilde’s life became a restless wave focusing solely on Will, the Scotsman with his lovely brogue sounding like a [...]
The author of this novel has written a historical romance with strong characters who behave in keeping with the era and she has made sure her facts related to the time are correct, for this I applaud her. More than this the people she has populated her story with are ones that I could relate to and that I wanted to get to know better. Each chapter begins with a quote from a book that enhances the story while providing information about what life might have been like during the late 1700’s. I l [...]
Enjoyable romance taking place in mid-18th century Virginia, when it was just being settled. The Miller family runs an "ordinary", aka tavern, in rural Virginia. Mathilde Miller's father is set on her marrying Josh, the son of family friends. She has no interest in the young man. At the same time, a handsome Scottish blacksmith named Will McGlashen, comes to work for her father, and sparks fly.The story incorporates many early American foods, customs, and a few historic characters, including a y [...]
Setting in 1700's, the author really describes the places and situations perfectly. I can assume the author loves to read history or she used to live in this era. She definitely brings us back to the past. The topic is something new to be written in such era. There are tons of recipes exposed in this book, but that doesn't bore the readers (at least not for me). It's a combination of cooking book and classic drama. For me personally, reading Tempting Will McGlashen was a yummy experience!
This hero is yummy on a stick. Lurv the title, and Will is hot, hot, hot!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the historical time period, and the real life characters that appeared in it - Mary Ingles and Colonel George Washington.
DNFed at 31% Liked the hero and heroine in this Shenandoah Valley set American colonial historical, struggled with the romantic arc, editing errors and spectre of Native American conflict hanging over the story. Not for me.Review copy given to me by the author.
