5 starsIt's important to note that I'm sitting down to write my review of The Mime Order roughly three weeks after finishing the book. The reason for this is quite simply that I was stunned, speechless, and didn't know how I could possibly convey in words just how amazing this book (and this series) is. How do you do epic perfection justice?? HOWW???? HELP ME, BENNYKINS.OKAY THANK YOU.In the interest of full disclosure, I have met Samantha Shannon and we are Twitter friends. First read: October 20-26, 2014Re-read: August 23-26, 2016First of all, thank you Bloomsbury for sending me an ARC of this book! It is my most highly anticipated book of 2015 (it was supposed to come out at the end of October but got pushed back. I was beyond thrilled to read this early, and all the thoughts in this review are mine. If you haven't read The Bone Season, the first book in this series, go do that now! This review won't have spoilers, but I just highly, highly recommend this series [...]

If you compare the opening of this to the absolute awful opening of the Bone Season you can see the author has improved, slightly. The awkward and overbearing information dumps are almost gone entirely. This allows us to try and piece the information together a little more; it gives the novel a more show than tell feel. That’s all well and good, but the novel is still very poor. This is the last book in the series I’ll readAfter reading the first book in the series I recognised that it was t [...]

1.) The Bone Season ★★★ Would me writing "I hate Jaxon Hall" over and over again be an acceptable review? Because that's honestly how I'm feeling right about now. “A boy who begged for books and pens as often as he did for coin. A boy with arms torn to ribbons by fingernails, plotting his escape from poverty.”The Mime Order picks up right where the The Bone Season leaves off, and I mean exactly how it leaves off: our group is on the train, and their escape from Sheol I didn't go quite [...]

How do you convey your feelings for a beautifully complex tale that brings ace character growth, world building, philosophical ideas and tinge of romance? Basically, you don’t. Not really. When you look at the brick that is The Mime Order, you’re bound to be intimidated. Intimidation festers into stress which then turns into my favourite pastime—feigning ignorance. AKA pretending that it doesn’t exists until the very last second, further perpetuating stress levels and ensuring bounteous h [...]

4.5 stars Ahh that plot twist! This is slowly becoming a favorite series of mine. Took awhile longer than the first book to become fully immersed but once I hit that stride there was no stopping! The world building is insane and leaves much to still be explored. Paige is an awesome heroine and I can't wait to see her kick some more ass. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Warden, though, and a bit more romance ;) All in all a really solid sequel.

Read this review and more on my blogIn a nutshell: The Mime Order was quite a slow read that I struggled with at times, but for the most part it was an enjoyable and strong sequel. The Mime Order is set in the same epic world we were introduced to in The Bone Season, taking place immediately after the ending of the latter. While it is naturally reminiscent of the first book, the tone is quite different. She might have escaped Sheol I but Paige is still in danger and there's lots of sparks in the [...]

3.5 stars! The ending was really cool and I'm so excited for the next book! However, this book definitely suffered from second book syndrome for me. I was honestly starting to skim some sections due to boredom and then I ended up completely confused as to what was going on. I'm definitely way more confused than I was in book 1 and I found this book honestly not as good as I expected. I feel like this book was a lot of running around in the same circles and could have been shorter but hey that's ju [...]

WHAT THE HECK. I'm so glad the third book is out because I need to continue this series!! That ending was so unexpected and this entire book took the great beginning of The Bone Season and amped everything up! The world-building and understanding of everything was expanded, and in this book we learn more about the politics of the crime world that Paige is a part of. I adored the plot and the way we see her developing and growing stronger. I love the Victorian influences that make their way into [...]

Finally finished. 3.5 Scorched Dreamscape Stars I liked this much better than The Bone Season. There seemed to be a clearer plot line and things move along at a little better pace. But it is still slightly slow in places to the point I almost started skimming and there is a ton of world building still happening that might have got a little bogged down with details.Paige is growing on me but the majority of the reason I don't totally love this book is her. She is young and growing but for some of [...]

Sixteen hours of audio – sixteen long, agonizing hours filled with tension and often even fear – and still it wasn’t enough to satisfy my need for this series. Samantha Shannon may be young, but her talent is astonishing. The Mime Order picks up where The Bone Season left off, with Paige Mahoney once again in London with Jaxon Hall and the Seven Seals. But while everything seems to be exactly as she’d left it, Paige herself is irrevocably changed. Not only is she aware of the Rephaim’s [...]

Shannon has improved her story telling and made an even more amazing original world building. The characters are still really awesome, my love for them has grown even more. This really is a series where I’m so emotionally invested in while reading that I’m almost screaming at the book; COME ON! STAND UP! YOU CAN DO THIS! KEEP GOING! O NO YOU DIDN’T! YOU STUPID **$%&! LEAVE HER ALONE! I just think this book isn’t a five star read because of the slow plot, the getting used to yet anoth [...]

I listened to the audiobook of "The Mime Order" and it was the first full audiobook I've listened to in a very long time. At first, I was really struggling to incorporate it into my everyday life but after a few days it just felt natural to listen to an audiobook while doing chores, shoveling snow away or driving somewhere. Furthermore, I think the fact that "The Mime Order" was an amazing book also really helped to turn listening to the audiobook into such an enjoyable experience.Back when I re [...]

Es sollte angemerkt werden, dass ich es als Hörbuch gehört habe, was mir richtig gut gefallen hat. An Electronic Advanced Reader Copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for review. Quotes have been pulled from an ARC and may be subject to change. The beginning felt like a huge waiting game. I was literally waiting for a certain male to appear on the pagesBut that didn't happen until way further into the book. Samantha Shannon knows what she's doing when she makes him appear. The first half is really all about Paige preparing for The Rose Ring, a battle (to the death) where one is crow [...]

The second book in The Bone Season series, probably the most highly anticipated read of 2015 for me and, to be frank, only a three-star book in my eyes. The ending, however, was so damn exciting it earned a star all on its own. Sadly the rest of the novel didn’t quite live up to my expectations.Samantha Shannon has said many times that each installment in this seven book series is going to have a very different feel to it, so that the reader has a different experience with each book. This is the second instalment in the incredible Bone Season series and was every bit as brilliant and complex as the first one.Paige Mahoney escaped her imprisonment in the Sheol prison camp, under cruel Rephaim leadership, only to return to her former cage, under the guise of protection, of her mime-lord Jaxon Hill. When the underlord of the underground clairvoyant community is brutally murdered, a new mime-lord must reign in his stead. All eyes turn to Jaxon Hill and his renowned mollisher, Pa [...]

Rating: 3.5 StarsSo much of the thrill within a fantasy novel lies in the sequestered magic, so firmly hidden, yet present. Whether it be Narnia or Hogwarts, these mythical realms are out of sight of typical human sight and all the more magical as a result. As readers, we don't want to read about the Pevensie siblings in London, going about their day-to-day lives and reminiscing about their time in Narnia. We don't want to think of Harry, sitting in 4 Privet Drive during the long, sticky summer [...]

Oh lord. If i had to describe this book in one word, it would be intense. Too. Intense. How, exactly, does one write a proper review after reading that last line? The Mime Order is a portal into the world Shannon brilliantly built; it helps us understand more and more about the book's clairvoyants, their powers and limitations, and it gives us a deeper insight into the world. The plot twists are beyond imagination, the ups and downs of the characters make us understand them more, and equally, lov [...]
