Wow! Talk about having an impact! This is, I suppose, a military romance. I really hate to label it that, because the level and depth of this novel is so far above and beyond anything I've read for a long time. Ms. James' coverage of military covert operations is simply terrifying to this military wife. It brings up images no one in their right mind would like to imagine if they have loved ones in the military. This story is brutal, but leaves you unable to stop listening (or reading). She manag [...]

Lauren and Rad met by chance on a beach right when the sun was rising but even more weird is that even though they didn't know each other at all, both only had twenty four hours left till they had to be back to their jobs. They both had trouble trusting but for some reason they trusted each other almost on first sight. They didn't know each other at all this they met that morning, but the next twenty four hours would test them both and make each one realize just how love begins.I fell in love wi [...]

Author Jessica James is a superb storyteller whose work stands proudly on my "keeper shelf". Writing with stirring patriotism, compassionate intelligence, and a heartfelt sense of true romance, Jessica thoroughly captures the hearts and minds of her readers. While she has specialized in exceptional historical fiction, her first contemporary work, "Meant to Be: A Novel of Honor and Duty", is an equally well-written, thrilling romantic suspense story. A chance meeting on the beach of Ocean City, M [...]

OMG!!! This book was wow.just.wow! Lauren was enjoying her last day of R&R in Ocean City when she meets 'Rad'. The chemistry between the two was so intense that it was not missed. We learn that Rad had an ex-fiance, who dumped him for a rich and powerful senatord she just happens to be a reporter for CNN The next day, Lauren is back at h [...]

A Great Narrator Sells Audiobooks Best. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I've never known this author prior to this audiobook listen and review and honestly probably wouldn't have purchased this audiobook if the narrator wasn't one of my favorites. I have found that if I find a narrator that I love, I will take a chance on an unknown to me author. Since I knew the narrator and already love her work, I was happ [...]

This book is my first Jessica James listen, and I can tell you, I will be watching for her future releases. Romantic suspense at its best, this high action, military based story will keep you on the edge of your seat. While the story focuses around the couple, Rad and Lauren, there are many well developed characters and subplots happening too. Over and above the top secret mission Rad is leading, there is also stories of social climbing, homeland security, and the personal lives of military sold [...]

The "War Against Terror" isn't just a catch phrase for some people. It is a fight they are still having, every day of their live, to ensure that those that came before are honored, those that are to come are free and those that never returned : did not sacrifice for nothing. War means soldiers, but this story shows that soldiers are ineffective, without those feeding surveillance and information. Those willing to sacrifice everything, including their own lives and freedom, to aid the cause. Yes [...]

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. OH. MY. GOSH!!!! This book was excellent. The author wrote a quality story with distinctive characters. There were all the ingredients for an awesome story. Something that you would see on the big screen. I, literally, couldn't put this book down. I was almost late for work because I was up so late and didn't want to get out of the car in the morning so I could finish it. The narrator did an excellent job with each of the characters and portra [...]

It was just ok - there were parts I really like and others not so much. The beginning when the H was trying to pick her up on the beach was a little creepy as he wouldn't take NO for an answer. I didn't like that part.I really like the h as she was intelligent and very good at her job. So many military books make the females helpless but she was able to take care of herself and get her job done.I was uncomfortable with all of the religious references in the book, it was over the top. I wouldn't [...]

A rollercoaster of emotions in a book that you can’t put down until the end. Rad and Lauren have only shared a day together but they feel as they’ve known each other forever. When they say goodbye and go their separate ways they don’t know if they will meet again. But can they have a future together when they have to face a very dangerous situation due to their country’s duty? A very emotional story about our men and women in the military working for our country.I received a free copy of [...]

Wow. What a great read. This is the first book I have read by Jessica James, and it won't be the last. Suspense, military, thriller, gut wrenching. This is told in both points of view so clearly you are right there with them. I am so thrilled I had the opportunity to review. I volunteered and would do so again in a second. Thank you Jessica James!

A great read! Jessica knows how to write a good book. The only thing that bothered me was that there were a few cuss words, but for the most part it was a pretty clean book. The story was good and it was hard to put down.

This was a really good story, a clean romantic suspense. There was swearing on occasion but since it was character appropriate, I just read past it but if swearing bothers you then don't read this. There were a lot of good characters. I would have liked some of the team to be described in more detail rather than being so one dimensional. I was disappointed at the very end, with how everything was resolved. I really wanted more details. It felt rushed or hurried over. That is what cost it one sta [...]

This is the first novel I've read by Jessica James and I enjoyed it. I am a big fan of military romance novels , usually with the emphasis on military - think Brad Thor and Vince Flynn, this one is definitely more romance than military so be aware of that if you're a fan of the genre. The characters are well written and it easy to see where Ms. James could have this be the first book in a series featuring the members of Rad's team especially since the ending did leave things a bit open. Ms. Jame [...]

This novel was superb. It is a high action, full suspense novel. Reading Meant to Be was like reading a really great action movie. As to be expected, there is violence in this military-themed novel. The characters are flawed, strong, and brave and the reader cannot help but cheer for them. The novel makes the reader appreciate the sacrifice of the United States' brave men and women serving at home and abroad. I would love a follow-up novel to see what happens to the two main characters, Lauren a [...]

4 Heartbeat Stars. This is the first book by author Jessica James that I've read. it definitely won't be my last. She is a wonderful storyteller that wraps the story around the reader and envelopes them in the lives of her characters. Things happen quickly for Rad and Lauren, but that isn't all that uncommon for people in military careers. They have a chance meeting on the beach one morning that turns into so much more. They soon find out that chance meeting may have been controlled by fate. Cir [...]

Rad finds himself needing Lauren in his future and fighting uphill battles to have her back in his life.

Romance was meh since I'm not fond of the love at first sight trope. The heroine needing to be rescued was also problematic to me. The main problems with this book are the religious overtones, the unnecessary partisan politics and the lack of a believable military group. These folks seem to have no problems with killing, no PTSD and are all rah-rah on the killing issue. DNF
