I thought this book was incredibly cute and I liked that there was a message of being accepting of others even if they are different from you. Hannah was "born happy." She was the ultimate cheerleader who thought that the world would be a better place if everyone was constantly cheered and if everything sparkled and shone. When Sunny moves in next door, Hannah assumes she will find in her a best friend who is just like her, but she gets a shocking surprise when Sunny has her own outlook on life. [...]
Hannah is a born optimist and struggles with befriending her new next door neighbor whose interests seem to be the exact opposite of Hannah's. I like the characterization of both characters, and I like the Mother-Daughter talk Hannah and her mother share when Hannah is frustrated by her attempts to form a bond with Sunny. The hand sketched and digital artwork is so expressive and furthers each girl's characterization so well. I really enjoyed the water-marbled backgrounds when the rain came pouri [...]
A picture book about friendship and differences. Hannah Sparkles loves sparkles and smiling and is eager to befriend the girl next door. Hannah is dismayed to learn that her neighbor likes rain, lizards, and spiders and doesn't want to learn to sparkle like Hannah does. Hannah learns that there are many ways to be happy and to sparkle and that friendship doesn't require people to like the exact same things or sparkle in the same way.
Sugary sweet Hannah meets her match when Sunny Everbright moves into the neighborhood. Unlike her name, Sunny wears all black, likes lizards, and playing in the dirt. Hannah is at a loss when she’s unable to connect with the new neighbor- nothing seems to make her smile. Until it starts raining, that is. Loved the message of being different and gender non-conformity. Highly recommended.
I got this book for my daughter whose name is Hannah! However, it was such a cute little book and she actually learned a lesson with it! This is the first book we've read that she's wanted to talk about!
Hannah Sparkles (an enthusiastically cheerful child) meets her new neighbor and learns that not everyone enjoys the same things.
Sweet children's book about two girls who build a friendship despite differences.
Hannah loves her day to sparkle. When a new girl moves in next door she can't wait to share all the things she loves with her. But it doesn't quite go as hoped.
Friends; understanding differences; not everyone will like the same things you like; different isn't bad
A great story about friendship and how everyone finds joy in different things.
I read an early copy of this from the publisher via work, with no obligation to leave a personal review.I loved this book! A happy-go-lucky main character that learns that people are different, and we can still be great friends. The illustrations are warm and adorable, and it's a fun read, if not an especially original one. I imagine that kids who relate to Hannah Sparkles will enjoy it the most.
It is cheerful that Hannah is an optimist and seems to want to have a friend. But also clear she has lots to learn about friendship. This book works for that, but just scratches the surface.
