Patrician (Secret of Alba #2) by Lindsey Winsemius5 starsReviewed by Char for Late Night Books and ReviewsPatrician by Lindsey Winsemius is the second book in the entertaining dystopian series about the world after the Great War. The world had changed dramatically, the population annihilated, City-states took control of different regions and the people were ruled with deadly control. Ms. Winsemius does it again! After book one I could not wait to read this second in her Secrets of Alba series. And Patrician did not disappoint. This is a series NOT a standalone, although you probably could gain enough through book 2 alone youd be ok.Lina has to find a way to cope with her brothers death. Her sheltered one way life is in complete shambles now. Even with the pristine existence of her day to day, she feels tainted. Her best friend was to blame for talking her brother into joinin [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Patrician, the sequel to Reaper. This time the bulk of the story follows Lina who is grieving for her dead brother and begins an affair with her gardener, a frowned upon thing to do in the society she lives as it is more socially acceptable to stick with your own caste. He is not what he seems though and kidnaps her, making her travel miles to the southern empire whom her people are at war with. Although they are natural enemies, the spark between them is hard to res [...]

This book immediately picks up where Reaper ended but now it is told from Lina's point of view, as well as Aerina's. I love this because you are still seeing Aerina and Marcus and what they are doing to secure their State but then you also see Lina grow from being a victim to taking charge of her life and changing who she is and being able to stand up for what she cares about the most.No one is what they seem in this book. You already know that Jay is a traitor, a spy from the Southern Empire bu [...]

This was such a great read! I don't know if it's because I loved Lina's character, or the struggle of emotions/duty to country/chemistry between Jay and Lina, or the world that the author created. In book one, "Reaper", I wanted to be awesome like Aerina - she's fierce, brave, and kind of a badass. And now with Lina, I felt I could relate to her more with her fight against insecurities and loved how she eventually stood up to them and those that tried to stamp her down. The cultures were so well [...]

Picked this one up as soon as it came out, having thoroughly enjoyed Reaper. This one focuses on Lina, Aerina's friend and brother to Stephen who was killed at the end of the last book. The 'hero' figure in this one is an enemy agent, very similar in size and expertise to Marcus, both men are willing to do anything to get the job done. Lina starts off as a weak, blabbermouth naive girl, but when her kidnapper urges her to take control of her life, she does just that, with bells on,and I get the f [...]
