DNF- I just couldn't get into the story. I'm not a fan of stories told as mostly an internal monologue.
Every time I read something new by Hazel Kelly I get so excited because I adore her work so much. This series for some reason seems to be my favourite, I always find myself sucked into reading the stories that have been created and this happened with this book too. I adored both Connor and Laney, I found them to both be such amazing characters and in a way it does make you think that not life is perfect, I’ve had my fair share of bad experiences but they have made me think about all the choice [...]
3 stars! A solid effort from Kelly. I enjoyed this one just as much as I did My Best Friend's Brother although this one was a slow start for me. Overall, I would recommend Kelly's work for those who like quick new adult reads with pretty good character development and a nice little escape for an afternoon of reading. This particular novel had a bit more serious topics-dealing with abuse and addiction and how it affects those who are forced to be around it. I also enjoyed the way topics like self [...]
The female protagonist in the book totally sucks. She comes around but I was totally over her and her shit. The male protagonist is awesome.
Headline: Laughing, squealing, happy dancing…I did all those things while reading this book. I pretty much loved the whole thing. The characters were sometimes sickly-sweet. Connor done stole my heart and ran far far away with it. Laney was the perfect fit for him. I really do enjoy small town love stories. It might because it reminds me so much of my grandparent’s relationship, which was the goal for all of their 20 grandchildren. Mainly I think the reason I love them is because of the simp [...]
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING! what a bland boring start to a book so much that i strugged to read it. WTF is with all the internal monologue? Most irritating characters ever. I gave uprry
This was a good love storyLoved Conner! The perfect guy all the way through! Laney however needed her head examined! All in all a good story!
This was my least favorite in the Soulmates series. The ending really killed the entire book for me, no way would anyone in their right mind give a mom like that a second chance.
This was a really great book about second chances. It was different from the other second chance books because it's the guy that takes off and not the girl. It was good to read about a down to earth guy who had his heartbroken by his one and only love and have her come back several years later. Yes she had some issues but alot of that came from her childhood and she was trying to work on them the best way she knew how by pretending to be someone she's not. I was reading one chapter and ended up [...]
Actual rating: 4.5I am really liking Hazel Kelly's writing! This was my second book by her this month and I liked it just as much, if not a little more, than the first one. The story flowed easily with the dual POV and I flew through this in nearly one sitting. How would you feel if you accidentally found a wedding ring hiding in your boyfriend's sock drawer? The boyfriend that you are currently living with? Would you immediately pack a bag and flee the city? Well, that's precisely what Laney did [...]
Four Star ReadStand alone. HEA. Good book easy read. If I could describe Conner with one word it would be devoted. Sweet romance.
Honest and beautifulThis was a heartwarming, beautiful story. It touched the beauty of the truth within ourselves when we must be bluntly honest to oneself. And it showed how forgiveness is necessary to love not only others but oneself also. Loved it!
GoodGreat book couldn't put of down real page turner!!!!!!!!!Hazel Kelly is a brilliant author love all of her books
3.5 to 4 stars. This was a second chance romance. Laney had a traumatic childhood due to her addicted, emotionally abusive mother with a partner who was physically abusive (to the mother). She ran away to live with her grandmother after learning of the grandmother's existence and never saw/heard from her mother. Connor lived next door. They fell in love as teens, but Laney, due to her low self-esteem, rejected him and his love. They both left their small town and went away to school. When she re [...]
I picked this up after reading the first book in this series, and I enjoyed it just as much! It was humorous with great dialogue between the characters. Definitely one of this author’s strengths. “As much as he’d tried to put me back together, I was always going to have physical and emotional scars that would keep me from being the perfect girl he deserved.” Laney and Connor were teenage sweethearts, until Laney broke Connor’s heart. They haven’t seen one another in years. When Laney [...]
Loved It!Five star read! I'm a fan of Hazel Kelly's writing. I'm also fan of friends to lovers and second chance books. The last two books of Ms. Kelly's have hit both my genres. The characters in this book were so well developed. Conner, veterinarian, great book boyfriend, his heart broken by Laney years ago. Laney, waitress, artist, dating a fellow new Yorker.Planet finds an engagement ring but, knows immediately she can't say yes and flees to her hometown to her grandmother to have some space [...]
I love it soooo much The Boy Next Door is a cute story about second chances. It's that kind of story that makes you fall in love with the characters and trust that true love really exist. It's about finding yourself again after being lost trying to be someone else. It's about dreams coming true and a love that never ended - the proof that sometimes love is stronger than pain or any geographical distance. This book is bittersweet and hot at the same time. The chemistry between Laney and Connor is e [...]
Best standalone from HK ever! This book has it all! Long lost love, a girl that thought is didn't deserve her first love, sexy vet, bad childhood, loving grandma, old heartbreak, soulmate and a girl who lost her self and her way. I always love Hazel Kelly's stories, and Connor was a loving, caring and to die for hot vet. Just the man every women loves to dream about. Laney is the girl next door how everybody loves, but she has a childhood that still affects her life to this day. I really loved re [...]
I really enjoyed reading this book. I love all Hazel Kelly's books. She is pure Flipping genius. I can't wait to read what she comes up with next. This book has everything you have ever wanted in the perfect boy girl next door Romance. Reading this book was almost like watching a movie about two young people falling in love then growing apart then getting older and then falling in love again. This book was done perfectly and I am so extremely sad that I finished this book because I can read about [...]
When Laney comes face to face with Connor, her first love who she'd walked away from years earlier she knows for sure she made the biggest mistake of her life. Has he forgiven her, does she even deserve it?The Boy Next Door is the third standalone book in Hazel Kelly's Soul Mates Series and it was brilliant, witty, warm, wonderful, well written, sexy, it's everything and more that I've come to expect from Hazel. Connor was a hot, handsome, gorgeous guy and Laney was a beautiful damaged soul, the [...]
This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be my last. Super sweet but sexy romance between Laney and Connor who were involved years ago. Laney leaves town because of her past and is now back. Connor lives next door to Laney's grandmother who is a hoot! I love Helly!! They see each other again and of course Connor doesn't want to get hurt again but he knows Laney is the only girl for him. I love both characters but Connor is sexy, sweet, and kind. Can't wait to read more by H [...]
Okay storyThis was just an okay story. It wasn't nearly as good as the first two and I found quite a few parts of this one to be implausible. I just had a hard time with this one.
I received an ARC copy for a honest review.Laney is the small town girl who run's when she gets overwhelmed by things. She's running again but this time home to Helly.Connor is the boy next door, now a qualified and highly sort after vet. When Laney and Connor meet again is it fireworks? The good kind or bad. Will lost love be rekindled or just thrown away? You know i won't tell you.Another awesome book from Hazel!!!!!
HilariousThe banter between all of the characters totally makes this book. This is a second chance romance. High school sweethearts are once again next door neighbors. Laney turned down Connor's marriage proposal before college because she didn't think she was worthy of him. She's made a lot of bad decisions, but goes home to her grandmother to figure herself out. This was an awesome book.
In love with Laney and Connor. His ability to forgive her and trust her again is beyond amazing. He truly loves her. It also goes to show you what can happen when you get out of your own way and forgive your past mistakes. You truly need to love yourself before you can allow someone else to love you. It's funny, heart wrenching and inspirational to read of true unconditional love and forgiveness. Do yourself a favor and read this book.
Hazel does it again for me in "The Boy Next Door", years have gone by, yet Laney still punishes herself for the biggest mistake of her life. Will Laney be able to forgive herself before her second chance passes her by. While Connor has done every thing he can to try and forget the broken girl who never fully returned his heart all those years ago Can he once and for all put her back together or will Laney once again prove that loving someone isn't enough if you can't love yourself.
I received this book as an arc for an honest review. Just as I had expected it to be, this was yet another amazing read. I loved everything about this book from the characters to the entire storyline. With every book that Hazel Kelly writes, I have another added to my list of favorites. This was an adorable story about first love and second chances. Is everyone deserving of them?
GoodI read it the whole way though in one day so I guess I really liked the book. So read it .
How could a girl go wrong with the boy next door? She couldn't, right? Of course not when Hazel Kelly puts the story together.Lacy has to hope for Connor's forgiveness, even though there's a mighty strong possibility that she doesn't even deserve it. This story plays out in a way that makes you want to live it for real. Five amazing stars for Hazel, again!
