This slender book explores the life of the Apostle Peter's unnamed wife, and I found it a compelling, complicated, and surprising read.As the first line explains, the only reference to her comes from the gospels, when Jesus heals her mother; from this simple line, Magia imagines what life for this unknown woman must have been like.I didn't know what to expect with this novel; I enjoy fiction inspired by the events and figures in the Bible, even though I'm not a fan of explicitly Christian fictio [...]
The Fisherman's Bride is a relatively quick read, coming in at 240 pages but there is a lot packed into this little gem. I was excited to be part of this tour as I love reading fiction with Biblical settings. There is also that little bit of apprehension wondering if the author can make the book authentic and believable in a small amount of pages. I am happy to say that Catherine Magia did a great job with this story. Not only breathing life into a young woman that isn't mentioned in the Bible b [...]
I love the Bible. It is so full of history and inspirations. So when I read the synopsis for this book, I was excited for the opportunity to read it. The prologue read prophetically; which I enjoyed. It was fun being transported back to the days of when Jesus walked the earth. To be able to feel as though I was there during this story, was a talent not every author has, but this author has inherently inherited. I think non-religious people will appreciate it for it's tale/story and the fact that [...]
Catherine Magia is a great writer and has definitely done her research on the era she writes about. Her prose is sometimes excellent and in the beginning of the story, I was excited to read this novel. But then nothing really happened. I couldn't connect with the main character, she lacked depth and was rather unlikable. The relationship with Simon didn't make sense, either, and I don't think the explanation for his actions in the end was very logical. I hope Ms. Magia writes more books and hone [...]
Finished the book "The Untold Story of the Wife of Simon Peter"I enjoyed the book was was somewhat surprised at the amount of Liberty that was taken with the telling of the stories of Jesus and placing Peter's wife in these stories. I realize this is fiction, though. I enjoyed her writing style and it did draw me back everyday to finish the story.
Very interesting tale, mingling many of the well-known Biblical stories within it. A very emotional and somewhat sad story. Iy have cried a time or two.
4.5/5.0The author does a tremendous job of taking the reader back in time to when Jesus walked the earth.Read full review in the 2017 March issue of InD'tale Magazine.
A beautiful taleThis is the wonderful first novel of a very talented writer. She has taken a difficult historical subject and brought it to life with lovely prose and a terrific knack for story-telling. At its heart it is a religious tale, but it is not preachy and will still appeal to secular readers such as myself. I sincerely hope the author continues the wife's tale in future efforts.
I wanted to be part of this tour because I knew this was a book my mother would love. She's blind, and I read it too her, which was a unique experience for me, as well.Catherine Magia's writing brings Simon, the apostle's, life so well, that you almost felt like you were in the story.Simon's wife remains unnamed throughout the story, which lets you see how women were treated in that time. She went from a wealthy daughter to a poor women who was disowned by her father, because she refused to marr [...]
I have to say that I don't read a lot of books written in this time period. Although I love the old stories, this was rather new to me. I was hooked instantly though because the girl in the story is such a wonderful character and her transition from child to bride to disciple is amazing. The one thing I did notice is that when you finish the book you realize that never once is her name mentioned. She is simply known as “Daughter” at first, then “Wife” or “Woman”. You would think that [...]
The Fisherman’s Bride by Catherine Magia aspires to flesh out the wife of St Peter. His wife was hinted at in the gospels by the fact that Jesus cured Peter’s mother-in-law. She is never named and Magia never names her in the book. Since the book is written in first person, the reader instantly connects emotionally to the bride. Magia’s massive research into the customs, beliefs, mores, and politics of the times draw us deep into the world of the men chosen to follow Christ. Magia’s desc [...]
