      The life of Henry David Thoreau was not one of writing but of hard work at many and varied jobs. Even though he is revered as one of America’s great writers, Thoreau lived a quiet life and only published two books during his lifetime. Students doing research will find the book arranged chronologically making it easy to locate works written within a specific era. The vocabulary is age appropriate; primary source documents and photographs are helpful. Includes a chronology of his life, internet [...]

      I'm on the hunt for a good--and easy--reference book on Walden/Thoreau/Transcendentalism for 5th grade teachers. I saw this displayed at the library and thought I'd give it a whirl. It offers a good overview of Thoreau and touches on where many of his writings come from. It wasn't the most engaging read, but it gave me the basic information I came looking for.
