    Milton Meltzer has written 110 books, five of which were nominated for the National Book Award With Langston Hughes, he co authored A Pictorial History of Black Americans, now in its sixth edition He received the 2001 Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for his contribution to children s literature, the 1986 Jane Addams Peace Association Children s Book Award, and the 2000 Regina Medal He lives in New York City.

      The life of Henry David Thoreau was not one of writing but of hard work at many and varied jobs. Even though he is revered as one of America’s great writers, Thoreau lived a quiet life and only published two books during his lifetime. Students doing research will find the book arranged chronologically making it easy to locate works written within a specific era.       I'm on the hunt for a good--and easy--reference book on Walden/Thoreau/Transcendentalism for 5th grade teachers. I saw this displayed at the library and thought I'd give it a whirl. It offers a good overview of Thoreau and touches on where many of his writings come from. It wasn't the most engaging read, but it gave me the basic information I came looking for.
