Recent Comments "Prize Stories 1996: The O. Henry Awards"
I love short story anthologies and this one is actually one of my favorites because it's the first one I read as a public library employee. I have since read a plethora of library books. My library card gets plenty of mileage. Anyway, each of the 20 stories in this book is excellent, highlighted by the masterpiece "The Man in the Black Suit" by Stephen King, horror story master. I love short stories. They're like vehicles—they'll take you places. That is all.
Three of the stories were really good. King's now much anthologized Man in the Black Suit, Oates' Mark of Satan and Menaker's Influenza. Adams' His women, Sharma's If you Sing Like That For Me, and Hoffman's Stones were worth a read. The rest varied between forgettable and painful.
