Bought this for my fifth grade teachers
B Is for Battle Cry is a beautifully written and illustrated alphabetical introduction to the Civil War that incorporates a clever poetic element for each entry. Author Patricia Bauer created the 26 brief poems to fit as the verses of Stephen Foster's "Hard Times Come Again No More," adding a unique option for "reading" the book aloud. Every entry covers a different aspect of the War Between the States, and accompanying text provides context for building understanding of this significant crisis [...]
My Review: B is for Battle Cry: A Civil War Alphabet: The beautifully illustrations of this book take readers on an A -Z journey into the Civil War, introducing them to the renowned leaders, historic battles, inspiring events and documents of the Civil War.A is for Abraham Lincoln and his history of becoming the 16th president of the United States. H is for Hardtack, the soldiers each received 10 pieces of hardtack as part of heir daily rations. S is for Spies, Wild Rose was a lady who spied for [...]
This is the kind of book that could only come from the marriage (literally) of two Civil War buffs. The author-wife and illustrator-husband did a great job covering the most interesting and important aspects of the war and its legacy. I was glad to see the illustrations were almost equal for blue and grey. More controversial topics weren't skirted, but were car [...]
B is for Battle Cry: A civil War Alphabet is all about the civil war. It goes through the alphabet, each letter is a topic that discusses about the civil war. This book can be used two different ways. One it can be used just like a regular book, or two it can be used as resource for a project on the civil war. This book has additional words on the side of the pages for those that want more information on the civil war. This would be used for the higher grades 4th to 5th grade.
This book features amazing illustrations alongside an alphabet themed interpretation of the Civil War. There are also more in depth explanations on the side of each page to further explain each topic.
This book has amazing illustrations. It also has great bold typed explanations of civil war terms for a read aloud but has smaller text for closer reading. I think students would enjoy creating their own Civil War alphabet books.
